Schwarbs would DH; Gammons floated the idea of getting Betances in return.

I would rather have Yelich over Stanton simply because of the contract and how much Bryant will be asking for in a couple years.

I think I heard rosenbloom say the Cubs need to trade Baez and Addison. I about ran off the road. Sadly, I did not though.

A lot of dumb here.

You readily admit you don't know half the players in the league. Who are you to decide who is easily replaceable?

I know the national league. Both those guys are not stars. They're fringe players that can develop into good players but not stars. Almora you can find another guy for defense. We already have one, Martin. Happ - unproven. Just get another utility guy.

Would you rather have Stanton or Bryant is the question there, in addition to being able to have them both for a couple of years.

I know the national league.

Debatable.
HawaiiYou wrote:

True.
HawaiiYou wrote:

Untrue.
HawaiiYou wrote:

They are already "good" players any way you slice it, unless you argue Happ's defense.
HawaiiYou wrote:

Almora is one of the best outfielders in the league defensively. They don't grow on trees. Martin isn't there, and he isn't even close to what Almora can do offensively, and Almora is still improving his at-bats. He has a career .777 OPS and has shown this year that he can develop plate discipline and start hitting righties.
HawaiiYou wrote:

Happ is only "unproven" because he is a rookie. Every rookie is unproven. Everyone that likes Schwarber due to his initial rookie season and his potential must be simply pissing themselves in excitement about Happ because Happ has looked better than Schwarber in every single way possible.

I would like to know what Theo and the boys envision Happ as before making too many fake trades and signings.

I think we forget he just got off his 1st year in the majors. He's got potential. Maybe another version of Zobrist but with a little more power. But he was a rookie, unproven, have to see how he pans out the next few years. But he's tradable right now and maybe that's what those guys are thinking about.

Didnt' Theo say at one time they would likely stand pat on a leadoff hitter this season? I heard Murph refer to it on the show today. If that's the way they are going, then definitely you should give Almora a shot day to day. They really should have done that this year. I thought they would coming into this year after they lost Fowler but they had to experiment w/ that Schwarber leadoff bullshit.

But these are baseball guys. maybe they think Almora is good for what he's doing now. Not a everyday player and guy you use off the bench for defense. Still wish they would give him a shot.

Ah gotcha, then I am in agreement.

Hawaii, I dont think Theo came out and said they were standing patt on leadoff guy, but he did not sound like that was high on the list. THere was also a report out that Theo told Almora he would have a larger role next year

You could jettison Zobrist, sign Cain and trade Schwarber for Archer. Almora gets to play that way.

I don't know. If I'm the Cubs, maybe. Like you said, Heyward's money might be the hang up for Florida.

Sunday Tribune mentioned Gausman & Tillman from Baltimore as possible targets.

Gausman is arb-eligible but the Orioles are in the market for a left-handed bat.

Tillman is a FA.

I would do that (keep Russell and Almora) for sure if I thought Stanton could stay healthy.

The guy has missed 40+ games in 4 out of 7 years.

Eric Hinske gone. He seemingly was very popular with the players:

Mallee should be the next one gone as well.

He seemed just as much of the Cubs hitting coach as Mallee. I don't know if this helps or hurts, but Hinske and Rizzo were attached at the hip in the dugout.

Winning teams lose assistants to promotions. It is the way of the world.

How many of Joe Maddon's coaches have become managers?

Not sure if any have, but thinking about that, it doesnt seem to work like in football.

How many of LaRussa's guys got managing jobs? Or Joe Torre?

Did you seriously hear this was being discussed?

That would be awful tempting, would have to give it some serious consideration.

That is giving up a lot of depth....I think I might wait and go after Harper.

Just dumping Heywards salary is a huge win, i dont think that comes around again.

that can't have been discussed.

If so, Heyward, Schwarber and Baez, sure. Happ...I don't know and Almora, you have to keep that kid, no? You've just shortened your window a bit trading that much youth...

I'm not sure why Martinez hasn't gotten a job, I'd take a chance on him over retreads like Dusty and Gardenhire.
