yeah, i let everyone use everything i've got in the boat. thats the best part about the high dollar rods is that they have lifetime warranties attached. i've got a few shipping tubes that make it easy to ship back and forth. (i send them in beat up ones because fenwick and st croix will send you new tubes). i figure if i want them catching fish they might as well use the best.

Plus, people steal. It's disheartening.

sometimes they'll steal stuff that wasn't even for sale. i remember my wife telling me that i needed to tarp the walls of my garage so that people couldn't see my stuff and/or think it was for sale. I was like oh hell no. the garage is CLOSED. she was like, what if it rains? my mother has some of those tent thingys, i'll set those up. no garage.

when she did a shared garage sale at a friends house (yes i helped her load a ton of shit into my truck and she went and sold it somewhere else) her friends husband said that he watched people lift up the tarps and try an buy stuff.

Yep . . . we had a block-wide yard sale one year and people kept looking past the tables we had set up to make us offer about some of our planters . . . on our porch . . . with living plants in them. Weird behavior.

Sometimes you can do this with golf clubs as well.

You guys are all wrong. You don't have to deal with these people. They are on your property, just tell them to take a hike if they are pissing you off. You're not running a business where you have to offer great customer service. I've thrown stuff in the trash in front of a customer before who got indignant about not accepting their lowball offer.

How much of a dope do you have to be to have someone shoplift from you? Having 2 people "working" a garage sale should be more than enough to stop any theft. One person watching the money, the other person watching the "merchandise".

Having garage sales are great. And yes, I agree with the whatever doesn't sell gets donated statement. You're basically trying to make a few hundred dollars by selling off the trash in your house you don't want.

The more Douchebag talks about how great they are, the worse they sound. You could sit in a Wal-Mart parking lot and experience roughly the same behavior. Maybe if there was a corndog involved.

I'm not saying I won't make a deal. But if you're going to be an asshole to me, I'm not going to let that person walk all over me for loose change.

You're welcome to be the guest of honor. I'm planning to do one next year. Come over and enjoy some beers. I'll sell your motorcycle for $5 when you make a bathroom run.

I bought a Technics record player with an extra needle for $12. I think I eventually sold it for close to $100.

It seems like most garage sales fall into three categories. 1. People who think their stuff is worth more than it is. 2. People who think their stuff is worth nothing and mark it super low. Like selling stuff for 25 cents. 3. People who know the value of their stuff and have fair prices.

There are three kinds of people. 1. People who are over 6 foot. 2. People who are under 6 foot. 3. People who are 6 foot.

I'm not making fun of poor people. I'm sure lots of the weirdos that have showed up to my house have been upper-middle class.

Well, I have been to his house, just not for a garage sale.

maybe it's different easterly, but out here in the boonies everyone that does the garage sales (and bargains, and steals et al), they're garage saleing because they don't have a whole lot of resources.

I dont do garage sales much but i do resale shops and flea markets. I have made decent money. You have to get used to wading through 1000 Trivial Pursuits or Twilight games before you find something worth something. Found me a new in box full size Gi Joe once ,paid $1 for it sold it to a dealer for $200.
I usually only get less than that. Games and toys are rough because collectors want mint.

Sure there's a lot of poor people showing up just looking for clothes for their children or whatever, but the big-time garage sale-ers are all flea market/antique dealers looking for a big score. These are the idiots knocking on your door the night before asking if they can see the garage sale early.
