maybe it's different easterly, but out here in the boonies everyone that does the garage sales (and bargains, and steals et al), they're garage saleing because they don't have a whole lot of resources.
Sure there's a lot of poor people showing up just looking for clothes for their children or whatever, but the big-time garage sale-ers are all flea market/antique dealers looking for a big score. These are the idiots knocking on your door the night before asking if they can see the garage sale early.
