Rich people make decisions for everyone else that have no consequences for themselves. That's what led to the rise of Sanders and Trump. Not that those guys are perfect avatars for such a movement. They're just symbols of dissatisfaction.

As a group? The middle class has more power. They just happen to often vote with the rich. The evil Ricketts family can give millions to whoever they want but it doesn't matter if those politicians don't get elected by popular vote.

The problem with this line of thinking is you are assuming elected officials have principle.

The wealthy "work with" whoever gets elected.

If politicians are truly working against the people they represent then vote them out. The fact is many middle class people ate happy with what they ate doing.

It is true that we the people are ultimately responsible for whoever is in office. I would say most adults in this country fail at media literacy and their basic civic duty to be informed citizens.

There are some at the local level and many go in with good intentions but once they get there, they fall in line or they dont get to stay.

Does it really bother you that much that it is possible that many voters actually like what their local politicians are doing even if it aligns with things that benefit the rich too?

I'm just stating some pretty universally agreed upon opinions.

And of course there are also people who vote against their own interests because they foolishly believe things being sold to them by politicians. Those people might be happy. They probably shouldn't be and wouldn't be if they could see fast forward and see the results of their votes, but yes some people are happy with laws that benefit the rich.

The fact is that a large portion of the things that keep down the poor benefit the middle class. That's why a large portion of the middle class goes along with the rich. Blaming the rich for those politicians constantly being reelected ignores the reality that if they truly wanted every single politician that was aligned with the rich would be jobless.

FWIW, I agree that they could do that, but elections are about 5% of what "power" is.
