I don't see why this would be a problem.

i like this pope. he is willing to think outside the box a little, and think about what is best for the future of the church instead of clinging to old outdated ideals. As a practicing Catholic i am in favor of this move.

Dude's gone off his rocker. Catholic priests don't make jack squat. Can't support a family on that. Half the churches are already shut down and diocese (sp?) are bankrupt from abuse payments. If his goal is to make the whole house of cards fall down, go for it.

Associate Pastors could be part time. Married with a family and a job, doing the church stuff on the side like MANY other Christian religions do.

We already have those. They are called deacons. There's no money to pay them. They work for free.

Deacons can do 95% of what priests do as far as time commitment.

They can only get married if there is scientific proof of a physical change as soon as the priest pronounces them man and wife.

If only there was a way for women to get jobs, maybe that could help support a family.

Lots of 2-income families couldn't survive on only one paycheck and rely on both. What would be different here? they wouldn't HAVE to marry, but it would be open to them if they decided they wanted to.

Poor people should be banned from marriage!

our last parish nun just retired. She was the principal of the school, and now that she has retired it is the first time ever that school has been without even one nun.

Just close down and send people to the empty protestant churches. Would be more efficient. A catholic priest cannot adequately perform his duties for 60 hours/week at slave wages and at the same time be a husband and father in any sort of catholic way. Which takes higher priority, taking care of your family or taking care of your parishioners?

They'd prefer alter boys.

lots of good Catholics work long hours for low pay and are good parents and members of the community. I believe there are good folks out there who can do both, take care of parishioners and family. It shouldn't have to be one or the other.

Please. And please stop raiding third world countries for priests.

Give 'em 401K--no inheritance of Church property, though.

seems like it would be a hell of a lot easier just to let women be priests.

I have not met an American born priest under 40 years old in the last 15 years. I don't think I have met more than 5 priest in total under 40 in the last 15 years.

We've had three of them at our parish. Two of them left to go hetero. Waiting on the next one.

Priests don't get paid much, but the church pays for pretty much all of their costs of living. I'm sure their kids would get to go to school for free, too.

This has very little impact on Church finances.
