most churches do not have family living facilities, nor do they have schools.

Yes, but only each other.

According to a Georgetown University study, “there are more Catholic sisters in the United States over age 90 than under age 60.”

i dunno. my ukrainian-orthodox priest does OK. has a day job and priest is his side job.

he could probably become seasonal and just do christmas and easter. not sure anyone would notice him gone the other 363 days.

That's not true about the living facilities. Pretty much all churches either have a building used as a rectory or own housing near the church that the priests live in. And I'm sure any Catholic School would do for free tuition for a priest's kids.

Our rectory was sold decades ago to pay the bills. Three old guys share an apartment in the administration building.

Employer: We don't pay you enough that you can afford to have a family, so we are going to ban you from getting married because it would be too burdensome to your employer!

yeah, except it's not a job. jobs don't make you take an oath of poverty. though some should in all honesty.

Priests don't take an oath of poverty. Some do, but most do not.

It is a job. That's why we are talking about the salary and benefits they make.

Nothing is sacred to the Church anymore, including canonization. They canonized a former Pope in John Paul II who was guilty of covering up priest abuses of the Church.

Next women will be allowed to be priests, because it is the politically correct thing to do. Cannot have inequality in the Church. It's bad for business.

Pope Jorge is truly a heretic.

Only certain orders require vow of poverty. fine. but you get the idea and the expectations. Interestingly enough Vatican Canon Law (CHAPTER III. THE OBLIGATIONS AND RIGHTS OF CLERICS) pretty much outlaws a side business or job.

And of course BRick thinks this is a good idea. That should pretty much tell the rest of you what the end game is.

I don't have any end game. I think it's good to let any adult who wants to get married to be able to get married. If they can't afford it and their employer won't pay them well enough to then that's a problem with the church.

Liken it to an oddball cult. A cult is not a job. Now you may go to a cult meeting at the cult campground and they may give you a tent. Still not a job.

You can be a member of the cult if you follow the rulez. (drink red kool aid or whatever). You don't have to be part of the cult but if you want to be a part of the cult you have to follow the cult rules. Now the cult could CHANGE the rules and the leader may attempt to do so. It is my prediction that it could accelerate the death spiral of the cult. That's fine. Just sharing my opinion. We will see.

here's a novel concept....allow Priests to marry AND allow women to be Priests.

When I first glanced at this, I thought the last part said "AND allow women to be rapists."
