They can have Stanton and hope they get him. He can be pitched to and that would eat a good chunk of LA's payroll giving them less flexibility even with their huge payroll budget.

Would have to give this some serious thought:

Heyward trade to the Giants for Samardzija and/or Melancon? This was reported first by David Kaplan and whitesoxdave of Barstool a couple weeks ago. Phil Rogers tweeted a few hours ago about the trade possibility with San Francisco. And now, Dan Bernstein says today a "close source told me this a while back but I promised I wouldn't say anything. But now that the information is out there, I can confirm the rumor is true. More to come."

Melancon is pure shit. Shark would be fine. A 2018 version of Hammel.

I’d do the deal if offered. Heyward in RF at ATT would be an huge improvement for SF. Pence sucked big time this year for them in RF coming off bad leg injuries. But Pence’s bat is clutch. Jaysons isn’t as we all know.

Cubs would owe those two twats like $30M/year for the next three years. I think I would rather have one overpaid loser than two overpaid losers.

If it was Melancon coming off a great year, I'd consider it.

Pass.

If it was Melancon coming off of a great year, San Francisco wouldn't consider it.

Obviously.

The point is a damaged Melancon isn't enough. If there was immediate salary relief that'd be different.

I'd rather keep Jhey than take on the guppy and Melancon. I don't want that chump Samardiza on the Cubs. Theo dodged a bullet when he turned down 5-75$ from the Cubs.

Hayward wins another gold glove.

I wouldn't mind shark back as a #5. Pence/Shark for Heyward I would take. Even Pence is on his last legs, but if you need a big hit that's a guy who will give you a bit hit in the clutch. He still ended up hitting 13 home runs in 2017 missing most of the season.

No. I think you can do better if you're going to trade Russell.

No way.

Need to get more for Russell or just keep him and trade Baez.

Was there any injury with Melancon? He had a nice run and got destroyed in sf. Seems like a decent buy low candidate. His home run rate there quadrupled. Babip went up to .375.

The Cubs have announced a series of roster moves as teams around the league continue to trim rosters. Chicago claimed righty Cory Mazzoni off waivers from the Padres, adding a new name to the 40-man. Leaving the MLB roster is outfielder Leonys Martin; he’ll be replaced by righty Matt Carasiti, whose contract was selected.

Mazzoni, a former second-round draft pick who recently turned 28, has been shelled in minimal MLB time. But he put up some exciting numbers at Triple-A, allowing just two earned runs in 20 1/3 innings while racking up 31 strikeouts against just three walks. Despite those eyebrow-raising tallies, Mazzoni made it through much of the rest of the league on the wire.

I know them. I see a lot of west coast AL games. I remember Treinen from his nats days too.

Most As players are unproven. I’d take my chances w tseng over manaea. Got to get some studs if your dealing Russell

Read about the proposed giants heyward trade today.

I can see the giants going for it. He would save a ton of runs for them in right field. Triples alley was a killer for them last season. Heyward could probably cut those balls in triples alley and turn them into doubles with his defense.

Didn't the Giants actually acknowledge this rumor today and basically laugh at it?

What's going on w/ Wade Davis? Are we going after him or he's gone?

Actually, these ideas are just a little bit of the pre-2016 Cub fan mindset sneaking back in. I told anyone that would listen this Heyward thing would be bad long term and fans would want to get him out of here. Now just like the old days there SOME fans dreaming up pie in the sky scenarios where magical great trades are going to happen for him because Cubs.

Don't confuse a handful of morons with most cub fans, overwhelmingly majority of cub fans know Heyward isn't going anywhere, he's never opting out and he's not getting traded in the next 4 years.
