Jean Joho made a bouillibase that only rivals my great grandmother's scratch made pancakes.

Or maybe Chef Michael Roussel making the greatest brunch I've ever had (Brennan's New Orleans)

Interesting.

Soup - Green Chile soup from Cafe Central in El Paso, TX.

As much as I loved the Ancho Pork with sweet potato tamale at Mesa Grill, I have to choose Heaven On Seven Chicken Habanero Jerk Touffee served with cornbread. It’s an occasional special but usually weekly.

In about a month with my youngest. We're going to wreck at least one oyster bed.

For the life of me, I can't make anything as delicious as those. And I've had offers to make my gumbo for two restaurants.

You’re burying the lede! There needs to be a Reader Gumbo outing.

Somebody put that together. I love gumbo and I can’t make a good roux for shit.

It was a Tuesday in June.

Cold pizza. Thin, square cut.

Nondescript sauce. Detectable notes of part skim mozzarella.

Green peppers, canned olives.

Ham, possibly Canadian bacon.

Utterly and instantly fogettable, but for the note attached to the styrofoam clamshell container.

Alice Coopers Bar across from the Diamondbacks Ballpark in Phoenix.

I was in AZ on business.

I had a meatloaf dinner and a Baileys Irish Cream milkshake.

I often think about that perfect evening as I was with my co-worker
and just chillin' as the young folks say.

It was the best meatloaf I ever had and that shake was unreal.

I am still trying to build my strength to do that. It's a 6 hour endeavor. And it's the only thing I'd put up against anyone in the world.

But really, I just wanted to hear classic food stories.

After I just spent 2.5 hours working on a 6lb rib roast. And now watching a show on Jeremiah Tower

I had a tandoori seafood mixed grill with coconut rice and spicy melon salad at a hole-in-the-wall joint down in Jupiter that was amazing. I had my favorite Thai meal ever at Thai Spice on Devon a few years ago but can't remember the order; it was as much the occasion as the food. Same to a lesser extent at Genwa in Beverly Hills; the conversation was great but the Korean BBQ with all the banchan and kimchi and steamed egg is one of the best dining experiences you can ask for if you're into things like dehydrated octopus flakes and all that.

As for my own handiwork, I slapped together a chicken curry from scratch a couple years ago that I was really proud of, and I made chicken with a fennel-y bechamel sauce that I thought was awesome if you love the anise/fennel/licorice family as much as I do.

Four hours for an anniversary dinner at Graham Elliot's now closed place. It was ten courses and awesome... still can taste the twinkie Caesar salad.

Runners up -- First time I had a fried grouper sandwich in Tampa; vegetarian banana leaf plate at the foot of the Batu Cave, lobster roll in Maine eating on the dock.

I believe there was a place on Lake Pontchartrain called Carmine's. Had flounder with some kind of shrimp cream sauce that was heavenly. I am allergic to shrimp, but had to have it. Awesome. Haven't purposely had shellfish since. I still dream about that meal.
I believe the best drinking experiences of a fairly illustrious career involved watching the sunrise in N.O. with beverage in hand. Love that town. Bowie had a line...as you're walking out of the oxygen tent, you ask for the latest party...N.O. is always on my mind.

Man, that's a tough question. I had a dinner at Everest that is certainly in the conversation.

Also, fourteen courses at Guy Savoy in Las Vegas was memorable.

I've been to EL Ideas several times but the first time was pretty magical. Innovative fine dining with a very loose vibe. Before the dessert courses, Phillip Foss and the crew brought one of these out for each diner:

It was coconut.

As a Chicagoan I would be remiss if I didn't mention a steakhouse meal. I've had a lot of great steaks in Chicago, but the most memorable steak I ever had was a ribeye at Del Frisco's in Orlando.

A BBQ smorgasbord at Killen's in Pearland outside of Houston. Killen's probably moved up to the number two BBQ place in Texas behind Franklins.

Other than that, I had a meal in Hanalei, Kauai with a fresh smoked pork sandwich on fresh made Hawaiian sweet bread and passion fruit slaw on top. It was orgasmic.

I had that. May have been like a 5 or 7 course though. Certainly was inneresting. was pretty damn $$$.

I've had a lot of good meals. I think the hospitality and company is more important than the food.

I learned to surf in Hanalei Bay. I surprisingly wasn't very good at it.
