reading through Sox boards, while it hasn't been finalized he would be an international free agent resulting in the Sox having minimum amounts they could offer

Thought I just heard them say at the update on 670, Sox sent money to Seattle for a pitcher.

Thyago Vieira. Reliever with heat (98-102). 1 major league appearance. Apparently does not give up the long ball....we'll see how he does at G-Rate.

I hope this is not 2007 all over again with the flamethrowers...

I'm hearing there's a good chance that MLB announces results of #Braves investigation on Monday.

Finally.

Looks like the Braves are going to lose Maitan and a few others. Too bad the Sox traded away a bunch of their international pool money.

Saw on twitter someone saying he should sue if that is the case. He has played state side.

When the Red Sox lost players as punishment the players were still held under the international signing rules. MLB has really fucked up the international signing system and seem to be handling things on a case by case basis so who knows. Maybe they will allow the players to be treated as regular free agents. I wouldn’t put anything past thus clown college.

I'm not exactly sure MLB's logic on this one. All teams were injured by the Braves actions but their solution really only provides restitution to a few. It would be much more logical, although inelegant, to give every team their signing pool from the time the Braves violation occurred and let them have at the players.

I'm not sure if there's a right way to handle this but if there's a wrong way these goofs will find it.

So all in all the Braves lost their President, the GM (banned for life!!!), the head of international scouting and 12 players. That sound you hear is 29 front offices shitting in their pants and deleting lots and lots of files. Holy fuck.

It seems the White Sox will have a shot at them as next year's bonus pool will also be available to sign Maitan and co.

If they don't have a shot, this would seem to be the year where that money is most highly valued by others. Leverage that for better than expected prospects from other teams.

I think they should let other teams duke it out for Marian and go after Abrahan Guitierrez. You can never have too many good catchers.

Agreed. Maitan is 17 and already becoming a fatass. Go after a couple of the other 11 that are available.

The punishment against the braves seems excessive when compared to the Cardinals. They literately hacked a competitor breaking federal law and simply owed the Astros a few million and the equivalent of a second and third round baseball pick.

The fact that Coppollela got a lifetime ban indicates there is much more to this story than has been released.

I agree the full story isn't out there, but why hide it. The just makes baseballs punishment seem like its a take a spin on the punishment wheel. A bit like the NFL's stance with domestic violence.

I was listening to MLB Network Radio yesterday, and whichever guy was on with Jim Memolo (who is actually good in that format) was saying that this was Manfred's way of saying (paraphrasing) "I know every team has done something similar to a lesser degree. Stop it now, or the next organization caught will be totally destroyed."

I hope that Coppollela enjoys selling cars. Maybe he can team up with Mac at Webb Ford?

The guy who did it also got nailed with a lifetime ban from MLB. The only four living people with lifetime bans are Pete Rose, Correa, Coppolella, and some idiot Mets reliever who tested positive for PED three times in one year.

My point remains, a team was found to be hacking another team and the penalty was 2 million dollars and 2 mediocre draft picks. That is the type of offense you make an example of.

Realistically, the Braves were guilty of being worse than everyone else.

One of the on line baseball sources provided an analysis of each of the players the Braves will be losing. Their report on each player made none of them sound like players who were worthy of a bidding war.

Here is the article. No glowing reports

Maitan signed with the Angels which is kinda weird considering they are still thought to be in the running for Otani.....

Ok they probably used money from next years pool. That makes more sense
