Scrooged is my favorite.

George C Scott was great in Scrooge and The Ref is an under the radar classic.

Frank somehow managed to be more wrong each year on A Christmas Story.

There's something else there. Maybe the Director was a Cub fan or something. It seems like a movie right in the Frank wheelhouse

"It's A Wonderful Life", while one of the best movies ever made, is not IMO a Christmas movie.

Discuss.

Goddamnit, shut up all of you.

It's "Santa's Slay" or "You Better Watch Out" or "Black Christmas".

DEAL WITH IT!

Peter Bailey was really knocking them out at an old age. Never thought much about it but George is maybe 12 when he goes to get advice and Potter is calling him a miserable failure.

And Harry is younger than him. Peter looks like their Grandfather.

I'm with Frank on A Christmas Story. Decent film but I don't find it very rewatchable.

So, of course, that's the one considered the most rewatchable movie of all time. OF ALL XMAS TIME.

The fact that I’m the only vote for Ernest Saves Christmas demonstrates once again that this board sucks at polls.

Probably why there's only one section you can do one in.

Nothing in the Ernest catalog compares to him going to camp. I think that is the only one I ever saw.

I'm okay with Christmas Story but I never got the over all joy that my brother in laws got when telling me it was on for 24 hours straight. I don't think I saw that movie until I was in my 30's though. Wasn't a thing in the Squirrel household growing up.

They mention the Sox in A Christmas Story. That alone makes re-watching worth it.

The book was uneven, by the way.

should it also be mentioned that Frank hates "A Christmas Story", but his favorite show of all time, "Seinfeld", was influenced by Jean Shepherd, Jerry Seinfeld's #1 influence? Who was the narrator, and creator, of "A Christmas Story".

and before Frank counters with (clearly an internet citation of) Seinfeld only referencing Shepherd as an influence to his standup..."Seinfeld" is based on his standup routine. So. There.

Actually I believe this was discussed several years ago. Beyond the Christmas song practice and tree decorating and “merry Christmas old movie house” there are literally Christmas images in the credits.

The climax of the movie is him running through the street wishing a Merry Christmas to inanimate objects.

How is Home Alone a Christmas movie other than the calendar?

and on that note, if "It's a Wonderful Life" isn't a Christmas movie, then neither is "Die Hard". So much for the convenience of the Gregorian Calendar.

Also, isn't Gremlins the most anti-Christmas movie of all time? OF ALL TIME?

My kids love that one. There has to be a story behind James Caan being casted for that role b/c it's completely nonsensical. Someone owed someone money or something.

Elf is great. Best movie role that Artie Lange ever had.

That was very good. I remember thinking that Whit Stillman was going to have this great Hal Hartley of the Preps always working type of career but it didn't really pan out. He had something out a few years ago but I didn't see it.

So because I like a given TV show, that means that I have to like everything and everybody that Seinfeld and Larry David were influenced by? That makes no sense. Not to mention that I doubt a Jewish comedian would have been influenced much at all by a Christmas movie.

A Christmas Story is terrible. Its over loved, over played, only mildly funny at a mere handful of points, and at times downright depressing.

It's played 12 times a year.

When is it downright depressing?

In my opinion, A Christmas Story captures the joy of Christmas as a kid better than any other movie. I would think anyone could enjoy that.

I wouldn't go as far as you, but I also don't understand the never ending love that this movie gets. It has its moments. I align with Dr. Ken on this one.

The "Fragile" scene is just terrible.

It's a Christmas movie that people watch once a year. No one is saying it's as good as The Godfather.

I'm not going to argue about A Christmas Story. Not enough care factor.

Have a wonderful day, Rick.
