Well, from what I read this overseas cash isn't idle per se; much of it is invested in corporate bonds and, of all things, US Treasuries. So in that respect, isn't it already "in the economy?" The most obvious issue with the bill, however, is the name. It is a matter of fact that any and all Republican-originated bills do the exact opposite of what they are named. The Internet Freedom Act, the Clear Skies Act... that sort of thing.

Did they come up with the "right to work" policies, too?

Anti-Federalists is the original attempts at messaging. Funny that the supporters of a strong federal government were the Federalists. Today states rights guys are the ones streaming “but federalism”.

Depends how you look at it. You could make a good argument that net neutrality made internet providers the equivalent of a public utility. There is at least a possibility that the new laws will provide more options and less cost for those who want internet but use it infrequently (thus, more freedom).

The most hilarious bill name was the Patriot Act.

Our national deficit has gone up $10T in the last nine years.

If you uttered one word about it ever, do us the favor of re-posting that for all to see.

Not surprisingly you’ve missed the point. You are consistent in that regard. Props.

Telecommunications 1996 was going to "increase competition." Enjoy AT&T-Time Warner!

"Based on the passage of tax reform and the FCC's action on broadband, Brian Roberts, Chairman and CEO of Comcast NBCUniversal, announced that the Company would award special $1,000 bonuses to more than one hundred thousand eligible frontline and non-executive employees," the company said in a statement.

Roberts also announced that Comcast would invest $50 billion over the next five years in infrastructure toward its “broadband plant and capacity, and our television, film and theme park offerings.”

Even with the investment I'll still somehow only get speeds that aren't even half of what I'm paying for. Yes, I know, the packages say "up to" but I consistently don't even sniff 30 mpbs with my 75 mbps plan.

I upgraded to gig speed in November. I am getting about 1.2-1.3 gig on the ethernet connected computers. The wifi is slower, but you know, large Pulte home and all.

It's pretty obvious that it is quite disingenuous to include "television, film, and theme park offerings" there. My guess is that a large majority of that $10 billion a year goes to those things rather than true infrastructure.

How much do they charge you for that? And was there an installation fee?

At with net neutrality, it will likely be most of the infrastructure upgrades are to compete with Fiber to the home which would have happened regardless.

AT&T's CEO said it was in response to tax reform.

The company also increased its capital expenditures budget by $1 billion in the U.S.

"Congress, working closely with the President, took a monumental step to bring taxes paid by U.S. businesses in line with the rest of the industrialized world," CEO Randall Stephenson said in a statement. "This tax reform will drive economic growth and create good-paying jobs. In fact, we will increase our U.S. investment and pay a special bonus to our U.S. employees."

AT&T plans to lay off and fire more than a thousand workers starting early next year, according to local reports.

Across the Midwest, an estimated 600 workers were notified they were being laid off by the company on December 16, a week before AT&T announced it was doling out $1,000 bonuses to 200,000 of its employees in celebration of the Republican Party’s tax overhaul.

The telecommunications giant told the Chicago Tribune in a statement that the most of the affected workers are from its landline and other legacy service sectors, but the company did not say how many workers total would still be employed in 2018.

Surprisingly, the latter story doesn't get any acknowledgments from the MAGA! crowd

Especially when Sarah Sanders is giving the party line from her perch.

I'm fairly certain that Depends, toilet tissue/wipes and Kleenex in a time where allergies are increasingly common more than offset that.
