Then you should try to get him fired, that would show him not to act up. I think that is crazy, but that's why there's chocolate and vanilla. I'm also not buying the "think of the children" routine that some are doing.

You literally played a role in doxing a person on this board (and it was justified). Can you not see why maybe this is also justified?

WYC

And wasn't his justification "I thought board members should know because sometimes their children are around"?

 Essence.

Except I never said that, but thanks for playing.

The search function is toast right now, but I'm pretty sure I remember you dropping a weak-ass "sometimes board member's children are at meet-ups" line during that whole doxxing fiasco.

Nope. Try again.

The search function is toast, that's why you can't prove it. You can search the site through Google. Please prove these claims that you have made against me, or kindly shut the fuck up. Take as much time as you need.

The search function works. This should be an easy task for you, Juice. The whole thing happened in June, I believe.

CH's post is the funniest in the thread. I'm still laughing about it. It may have been even funnier if he had posted it the way Jagger sings it, "You shoulduda heard him just around midnight."

There's a good interview with Jim Dickinson about the recording of the song:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sx8X2Dtkuaw&t=202s (starts at 10:00)

Dickinson is responsible for making sure "Hear him whip the women just around midnight" got into the song.

On the surface the song seems to be about the slave trade, but I don't think that's what it's really about. I think it's actually Jagger coming to terms with his own proclivities for black girls. I believe he was with Marsha Hunt at the time.

It's an interesting lyrical approach. I can speak from personal experience with a song I wrote when I was about 16 years old called "Jack the Ripper". It's ostensibly about the historical serial killer and the details in the lyrics are historically accurate. But the song is really about me coming to terms with my unrequited feelings for a particular girl. She and I are still good friends. Many years later I told her about the song and she was flattered. I'm surprised she wasn't horrified.

It was toast, I was getting an SQL error. Don't know how to use google to search the site.

But you are right, you did not present the "children at board outings" idea, that was DB in the thread linked below. I confabulated, and I apologize.

Sure--that's the way art works. We all have our own mythologies and symbols, so that example makes sense. It seems to make sense with Jagger's taste for women of African descent, as well.

Great interview!

It would be remarkably shitty, though, if someone on the board intentionally went about trying to get the guy fired--and then claim xie is doing a public service. That's bad faith, baby.

The interesting thing about Pat's situation is that his employment is actually protected by the 1st Amendment. Any of us that aren't working for the government can get fired for anything we say, with our only constitutional recourse being collecting unemployment (the First has been used to reverse denials of unemployment when the worker was dismissed for speech of a certain kind), but Pat can take his pink slip right to a lawyer and sue the government, and win.

Point being, there is at least some process by which his bosses would dismiss him for his persona on twitter, and they are forced to be cognizant of protections afforded Pat that our bosses are not. Further, Pat has an immediate avenue for recourse if he believes any termination or punishment was unjust policing of his speech, whereas Joe Sixpack getting fired for drunkenly typing out racial slurs on Facebook decidedly does not.

That's one of the suckiest things about America today: You ain't in a protected class? They can fire you for anything, no matter how good you are at your job. Say something stupid on your own time? You get zapped. It's nuts.

Of course, there are many, many lazy people who perform poorly at their jobs and unions protect them, and people should be savvy enough to cover their tracks, but still....

Wait what? Didn’t all of us learn very early on not to post shit online that you wouldn’t say around people in person? That it could easily come back to bite you? I mean... this is like the first rule of using the internet.

No, the idea that posting is real life is a fairly new development. It used to be understood as sort of a performance art, and that hassling people away from their computers was out of bounds.

I guess we were raised differently. While I was registering an AIM name in like 1996 I got a lecture from my dad on how everything I say is me saying it.

I thoroughly disagree that this is a new concept

Well yeah, I was told not to be irresponsible, but 2000s forum culture was such that you were essentially playing a character and always doing bits. If you found something embarrassing out about a person's real life, you'd bust his balls, but you wouldn't call his boss.

I'm guessing most guys on the CFMB Facebook group would disagree.

Heck, one could argue that Pat shouldn't care about who sees his tweets. he posts under his real name, gives his general location, posts all the time about his job, links to articles with his name on the byline, etc. He went so far as to claim his bosses saw everything he tweeted and laughed about it. It's hard to feel sympathy here as he is the last person who should expect anonymity online. He never sought anonymity behind that twitter handle so he shouldn't expect it to be granted when he threatens to rape another man's wife.

and you can still do that by posting here under a screen name or posting on twitter as an anon. BRougue regularly does so with anon accounts such as the now deceased Remo Williams.

I haven't kept up with Pat or what he shares but it's real dickish for someone from here to actively try to get him fired. It's one thing to give him shit here but it's wrong to go after his livelihood. This community isn't the same as other places online. MANY folks say and share things they don't want to say or share publicly. Let's continue to respect that.
