Since you're thankfully ok, doesn't this belong in the "Signs You're Old" thread?

Not that I'm not in the First Alert/"Help, I've fallen and can't get up crowd myself "

My brother-in-law from the East Coast brought a huge sampler of Counter-Weight beers.

Look great. Never heard of them.

Kirkland Canadian Rye + 4 dashes of Fee Bros. mint bitters + sugar cube + club soda. I call it the Mint Fashioned. You might call it a mint julep with club soda. I might say fuck you.

It pisses me off that the old fashioned is the new hipster drink. I found it 20 years ago because I was too much of a pussy to drink bourbon straight. Fucking hipsters.

I've started drinking them because they help my rate of consumption throughout the night. If I'm just drinking stuff on the rocks, things are liable to get messy. And also Don Draper.

We checked out Bub City and while I don't quite get the attraction to their food, their barrel select old fashioned using whistle pig river rose bourbon was exceptional.

as somebody whose sternum is still healing after being deliberately cracked open 11 weeks ago and still fucking hurts when I cough or take a deep breath, I suggest you do neither of those things for a while.

A cousin, a friend, and I did a tour of some NWI and Thornton Fractional microbreweries yesterday.

New Oberphaltz was good if you like German styles. Decent food for lunch.

Windmill had some good high APV stuff, between the three of us we tried five different beers and everything was solid or better. I had an orange IPA that wasn't too hoppy.

One Trick Pony in Lansing is a dive in an industrial park. Surprisingly big beer list.

Byway has outstanding food and very good beer. I was driving and was cutting back on beer by that point, but I had an excellent chocolate cinnamon Stout for dessert.

Between that and spending Friday in Milwaukee, I am going to be alcohol free until dinner tomorrow night.

How great is Liam Neeson's voice.

Have you seen Guess Who's Coming To Dinner?

Great performances and I understand it was edgy for its time but Sidney Poitier had to literally be a doctor, doing humanitarian work in Africa and on the verge of winning the Nobel Prize for the producers of that movie to make think it would work.

I still love to watch it. And knowing that Tracy was also, literally, dying and Hepburn had to watch. They had to limit Tracy's screen time to minutes/day.

That last great scene that Tracy describes what love is - is real life between him and Hepburn. It's an amazing piece of cinema.

Yeah. It was the movie they just played before “Heat”.

Agreed on all points. Besides the chick who plays Joanna, the acting is top notch. I love the scene between John and his father. “You see yourself as a colored man. I see myself as a man.”

Yeah, Joanna sucks.

Also, the dancing milkman seemed unnecessary.

To make a real critique of the movie, there's no way that Sidney Poitier character falls in love with Joanna. She's a balloon with a hole in it. Nothing inside.

Biggest suspension of disbelief in the movie. It's where I think, because I was not of the time, I don't understand what would be possible but that should have been a strong woman to match his character - not some vapid Valley girl.

That’s the part that dates it. Hepburn in a younger self would have matched Poitier, but they figured they needed a wide eyed hippie for him to fall in love with.

Love Weezy in it too.

Also great. I don't think it's a movie that could be made today. It's contemplative and slow. People don't have much patience to consider things anymore. I NEED AN IMMEDIATE REACTION!!

I'm probably predisposed to find it interesting because my wife is not from my drunken Irish culture but I legit think it's a movie worth seeing.
