Retail stores are institutions of the Patriarchy and White Privilege.

Thank you, fat lazy humans, for killing them off.

Bookstores WERE awesome. I can't find hardly any anymore. Use to love going to a bookstore after dinner and just browsing. It was a great place to wind down after a long day. No more now.

Record stores too. Liked talking music with people in the stores and the workers. Or getting recommendations. JORR probably remembers Musicland.

Coops Records on 87th and Stony was my spot as a kid until about 23 years old.

And then you hit what, Pee Wee's or Taurus next? Good times :D

  Pee Wee's was the best. Loved their shakes but I probably walked down to Stony Sub.

It's all cyclical.

Retail stores will be gone except for maybe Walmart. Then with no competition, amazon can charge whatever they want and will jack up the prices exponentially. Their customer service will probably suffer as well and their delivery times.

People will be pissed and the retail store will make a comeback offering lower prices.

It'll happen.

When Jesus returns to claim his lost commandments or some such shit.

Those adapters, if I'm guessing properly at what you needed, suck. You lose a bit of quality and a lot of volume. I needed one for my TV and the soundbar ends up being far quieter and less full than my TV speakers, outside of bass, which is plentiful. The soundbar hooked up directly with optical audio to a different TV worked swell.

Yeah. I'm not sure it will be good but not ready to replace the tv because somehow it doesn't have optical audio.

I was looking at replacing my current TV, same situation as yours, on Black Friday but couldn't find a winning deal for a 120hz native refresh rate ~50" TV. Maybe next year.

The TV works great outside of no optical audio and only 60hz though. I've had it for a good 7 or 8 years?

Unless it's the same brand it may be a case of "you get what you pay for". I used to buy cheap chargers for my phone and I would end up paying more than a brand charger costs over time. Same with the protective cases. I've dropped and even thrown my phone but the Otter Box taked care of it. Also some online vendors charge more for shipping than the product so they can reduce the number of returns or profit from a return.

It sure looks like Burlington is going to close at Stratford Square. Lots of empty floor space and the walls are bare. That mall has an entire wing that might as well be abandoned, and won't take much to turn it into another Charlestowne Mall.

Sometimes. I also bought "Senso" brand in ear headphones for going to the gym a couple of months ago and they are the highest quality in ear headphones I've ever heard. Better than $200 Bose or Beats in-ear. Sometimes ALL you're paying for is the name. Apple also comes to mind.

Personally, I really miss RadioShack. I can't tell you how many times I was willing to pay triple the price for a cordless phone battery, or obscure headphone or HDMI adapter just to get it RIGHT. NOW.

I still use the shit out of ACE/TrueValue Hardware. One of the last places where you can get excellent and prompt service. Everyone's grandad works there, and those guys really know their shit. 2 seconds in, you tell em what you are looking for, and they walk over there with you and BAM you got it right there. Time is money.

The dickwads at Walmart, Home Depot, and Menards, etc. are just thinking about how much more money they should be getting paid (for doing absolutely nothing) and when their next smoke break is - keep it.

Walmart is especially bad - I see workers there regularly fake phone calls and CB Radio calls to get out of helping customers. Freaking 10-deep checkout lines, with like only 2 aisles open, and employees are walking around doing nothing with their thumbs up their asses instead of jumping on a register.

yes yes yes on Ace/TrueValue. I remember back when I lived there Ace/TrueValue were like twice as expensive as Home Depot/Lowes/Menards but it was worth the price because of the service. That service saved me thousands of dollars. I walk in, ask one of the old guys how to do this or that, guy tells it to me in plain english for about 5-10 min, I go do it and it works. Compared to going to Home Depot, where you're lucky if you even find someone that will help you, and if you do, they all are the most complete idiots on any questions you ask. Even a simple question like 'where can I find lightbulbs?" gives you a different answer by each person working at home depot.

A lot of truth in this post. I absolutely HATE Walmart. I will almost always pay more to avoid them. I was in line for half an hour because there were 2 lines over the summer.
