I'm not sure we should move further left than some New Deal/Nordic model hybrid but we should definitely aspire to that. FDR understood that we needed some socialism to save capitalism.

One of the weaknesses of many American leftists is their adoration of foreign socialist despots over American socialist reformers. How does prattling on about how Stalin did nothing wrong endear your cause to Poles, Lithuanians, Ukrainians, and plenty of other groups who live here and would beg to differ? People like Medicare. Talk about Medicare.

My original question to CH was intended to cast doubt on the notion that the American left, as it is currently emerging, is preoccupied with defending Stalin.

The example you provided does nothing to undermine my position since Grover Furr is an inconsequential academic who holds no position of importance on "the left".
