My great uncle. I never knew either of my grandfather's (my dad's dad died before I was 2, and my mom's dad died when she was just 18), so he pretty much played the part of a grandfather when I was growing up. Loved his scotch and water. There is a picture of me and him standing next to a keg at my 21st birthday party that he had frame hanging in his house. He was so proud of that moment that he got to have a beer with his nephew and Friends.

He moved out to Pittsburgh to be closer to his kids about 12-13 years ago, and spent the last years of his life living in a VA home out there. Had a stroke a couple weeks ago, but up until that point he was with it physically and mentally for his whole life. He would tell War stories with such detail, you think they would have happened a week ago.

Both him and his brother (my mom's dad) we're on the ground in Europe during World War II. Both were captured by the Nazis, and in a twist of fate as the Germans were marching the POWs across Europe, they ended up crossing paths. They got to have an emotional albeit brief reunion.

It's sad, but I'm not terribly broken up about it as he had an incredibly full life. what actually bothers me the most is that tomorrow would have been his 100th birthday

Wow, 99. That's a hell of a life. That's cool he shared the war stories with you.

Sorry, Frank.

A lot of board members will be disappointed this wasn't about Bernie Sanders.

I mean, I couldn't imagine the despair you must feel being a prisoner of war marching across a continent 3000 miles away from home.... Only to run into your older brother. It's almost like something out of Hollywood.

Sorry to hear this, Frank. Yeah, the crossing paths with his brother thing is amazing. Definitely Hollywood-esque.

Rick is rerewriting his post after realizing what the thread is about. And by rewriting I mean deleting a bunch of emojis.

Sorry Frank. If you end up out here due to this let me know. I’ll buy you a beer and you can tell me a story or two.

Sorry for your loss Frank, but I'm sure that your uncle would be moved by your sharing your good memories and stories with a bunch of guys on the web who appreciate them
