If they keep pitching to Thome it might not end up that bad.

This could be one of those 14-11 slugfests...

In other news, I'm really tiring of Buerhle's antics

Uribe with 3 strikeouts today.

Starting off very Uribe like.

Buerhle has had some rough outings vs. Cleveland in the past.

If Eric Wedge manages his bullpen all year like he has today, the Sox might overtake them for second.

Konerko just doubled in two and it's now 7-7 top of the 7th!

Masset pitched very well today in mop-up duty...

It's gonna take Buehrle about 4 decent starts to get a respectable ERA now. 7 runs in 1.2 innings.

Still, Sox battled back against the Cy Young winner. Took Buehrle off the hook for the loss.

Buerhle will do that, 5-6 quality starts then a dud.

Here's hoping we get the quality starts...

..somebody alreadey dumped him in my league, attempting to put in a waiver claim...

Masset looked good in lomng relief.

buehrle's not allowed to pitch on opening day again as long as he's in a white sox uni.

Gotta love the comeback at least. This lineup is looking good.

Um, the pen kept them in it. Dotel gave it up, but overall the pen did great.

As bad as those calls were, you don't deserve to win when your starter cannot make it out of the 2nd inning. I'm tired of seeing Masset pitching in the 2nd inning on Opening Day.

Tough losses on both sides of town. I think the Cubs loss stings a little more. Not much.

I don't think I can remember and opening day where both Sox and Cubs games were compelling for the entire game. Both were really exciting games.

They scored 8 runs on 13 hits!...what's wrong with that? The bullpen gave up 3 runs in over 7 innings of work!?! Sounds like the bats came through, & the bullpen was effective considering they pitched SEVEN FREAKIN INNINGS!!
Stop trying to blame the last guy that made a mistake and place some blame on the guy with the biggest mistake...Mark Buehrle.
I'm still of fan of Buehrle's and the team, but for this game he was the biggest reason we lost.

I agree. Buehrle is my favorite Sox player but he was completely the reason we lost yesterday. You cant give up 7 runs to a contender and expect to come back and win. It was disturbing to see Dotel get rocked his first appearance with us, but Mark was more to blame for sure. I still really liked what our lineup was able to do against good pitching, and theres some good things to take out of the game. Cabrera needs to not be so bone-headed for a respected veteran though.

Yes, they left 9 guys on base and scored 8. The bottom of the lineup...not to great in that department. My only point is that the runners LOB, while if they all scored they Sox would've won, isn't where we should be looking for the reason for this loss.

0-1.... here we go again? I hope not

Mike, I dont think its a here we again situation. I think the offense will be signifcantly better than last season. That alone should be worth 7-10 wins. If Contreras can go back to his 05-06 self, which is possible, then I think our starting staff is fine. Im concerned about Dotel, but I think the rest of our bullpen will be better. I think 80-85 wins is about right, and I wouldnt be surprised if they made a playoff run. If the pitching is anywhere near as bad as they were yesterday then we are looking at 70 wins again.

because this may sound crazy but aside from contrearas our pitching staff wasnt terrible last year. i remember many occasions beurhle would give up 1 or 2 maybe 3 runs over 7-8 innings and lose because the offense couldnt drive it in.

The bullpen was highly combustible.
