A national study released yesterday reported that half of all Chicago kids don't graduate from high school. It's a simple question. I'm just curious as to the extent to which our board reflects society.

Some college. Here is a stigma that I encounter all the time.
I spend more time in school than most college grads do. I can't say I have an "education". But I have certifications up the yinyang.

It would be my guess that people who did not graduate high School would have or know how to use a computer and certainlty they would not have the foresight to find this well Educated group.

Apparently the administrator of this forum would fall into the top category since he has Wind Sock in the 1000 Club with a whopping total of 283 posts

It's also been my experience in my career that college grads I work with wouldn't know how to tie their own shoes if there wasn't a manual written by idiots like me.

There's a manual for that??? Would you mind sending it to me? My shoelace expenses are killing me.

Thank the Lord for the miracle that is Velcro or I'd be Shoeless Doug....like how my ex wife left me....shoeless, but that's just because she would tie them for me.

I know I've never mentioned it before but I graduated from Purdue University and I'm also a fan of their teams.

It has been my experience that rather than attempting to decipher another technical manual filled with self important industry jargon that justifies multiple industry certifications, I'm better off buying loafers.

No I had a couple professors at community college I really liked, and we still talk. I just am lazy.

Yeah basically. I know it sounds pathetic. I really love learning, I was just too lazy to do all the paperwork stuff. Im still considering going back as I think Ive matured a bit in the past couple years.

FF, I have always disliked school as well. It has nothing to do with being lazy. I have another theory.
Put up a poll in this section asking people how they best learn... by reading it, by doing it, or by watching others do it. You will see that everyone learns differently. Some have to do it themselves. Some can read it and understand it.
Public schools not only completely disregard this simple, basic principle of human learning, but they force children into learning in what may be a very inefficient manner. And when you do not excel, or if a child acts out as a manifestation of frustration, you will be branded. You're a trouble maker, you're different, or the worst, you need to be medicated.
There is a fundamental flaw in our entire educational system. It's not scalable to match the potential in each student. It's all or nothing, the cookie cutter.

I strongly agree with this view. I would also add that it's amazing how quickly students who have been told they are bad at something can become very good at it when those students are exposed to different pedagogical methods.
