All of you were bad children, so how did you earn that first detention or suspension in school?

The only detention I ever received was in 8th grade for writing on my desk. The teacher monitoring detention allowed me to play Oregon Trail for an hour.

Uhh...probably 4th grade for not doing any homework. They also punished us by moving our desks away from everyone and into a corner.

Referred to a teacher as a bitch or maybe it was fuck “teachers last name” to a friend. Was overheard by another teacher. I had been an issue that year/day and enough was apparently enough. Baseball coach/principal was displeased but nothing major but an hour and a half of doing homework. Don’t think my parents got called again as I didn’t want that “discussion” ever again.

It's also a staple in your marriage too, yes?

Jr or Sr year of high school. I was running late and got pulled over for speeding (I was going about 40-45 in a 30 zone). Seeing as I had my sister and one of her friends in the car and we were two blocks from the school, I thought the cop would let me go. He didn't and by the time I ended up getting to school, I ended up with 1 day of detention for an unexcused tardy.

I was such a rebel.

Said "The Bulls sucked" in 7th grade. Got another for laughing while someone else threw pencils.

I tried but I couldn't argue out of either. The vice principal did say the detention for saying "Bulls suck" was bad though.

8th grade lunch recess. Kids were playing basketball and shot got away and bounced over to me. Apparently I didn't throw it back fast enough and 1 kid went crazy and started a fight. Only full blown punching fight I have ever been in. (One fight, and it's for something that stupid....) For the record, I kicked his ass, but got 3 days in-school suspension. Suspension wasn't a big deal, but I couldn't play for basketball team during it and ended up missing our biggest rivalry game that year.

are you talking about any kind of punishment?

I got punished a lot in grade school. I didn't do straight out bad things. I was just disruptive.

JUGs (not JUGGS) sucked. I didn't need to get more than one of those to know I didn't want another. Getting one in season was like an endless loop of punishment. JUG, followed by punishment for being late for practice, followed by punishment for getting JUG at home.

I got suspended once.

Flipped off the lunchroom lady behind her back. Someone tattled.

HS junior year. Along with 7 other team members, got kicked off the baseball team and suspended for a week plus alcohol counseling.

We were on our annual spring trip to SIU for a tournament. One of the guys got ahold of a recent grad going to SIU who hooked us up with a couple bottles of Jack. We pulled them up to the hotel room using sheets. One of our idiot teammates decided to walk back to his room with one of the unopened bottles. At that moment, one of the assistants was walking out of his room. Our buddy spins around back into our room and apparently drops the bottle behind the open door. The coach comes in and tells everyone to get back to bed. When he turned around, he sees the bottle and takes it back to his room.

We got sent home the next day. They tried to get us to rat out one guy so we could still play but we all stuck together. Personally, I had contributed $1 to the fund. The bottle was never opened. I remember the Dean asking me "Would you have partaken in the drinking?" I told him I most likely would have. We all stuck together.

The team lost: starting 1st, 2nd, 3rd, Center field, catcher and 3 starting pitchers. They still managed to go. 500. Could have been a state championship squad. Fucking idiot head coach. Kicked 8 guys off a championship caliber team for admitting they would have had a few sips of booze.

my buddy found out that his spanish teacher was probably having an affair with another teacher. we wrote the spanish teacher a ransom letter to pay us or we'd tell. kind of a haha thing. we didn't think the guy would leave it under the teachers door. we never knew this.

he was to leave it in a copy of a spanish book in the library.

2 months later, buddy is in the library in the spanish section, looks over at the book we picked out. picks it up. opens it just for giggles like "what if there was something in there" there was. non chalantly puts the book back. and looks at other books.

next thing he knows he's in the office. suspended for a week. he rats us out kind of but says it was his idea. we got 2 days.

turned out we were right though.

i also got suspended 1 day because we knew that this 1 kid has stolen another kids jordans. like out of his house. he didn't wear them in gym class, wore old shoes. the lockers in the gym class locker room had small holes to allow clothes to air out. we were peeing in his stolen jordans when another gym teacher (not the fun one) caught us.

Insulted a high school soccer referee. Got kicked out of the game - both my mom and the principal (a priest) we're in attendance. Took advantage of my time off - rode the Illini Swallow to Champaign and hung out in the dorms for a few days before seeing Rush 2nd row at Assembly Hall.

Our high school jazz ensemble performed at UI and were supposed to go on a tour of the music hall and other parts of the music department. The rhythm section decided to go to the student union where we played Cyberball (loved that game). Someone who went on the tour told on us, so we all got Saturday detentions. I ended up getting all my homework for the weekend done plus some reading.

I was suspended for ten days and recommended for expulsion. 17 kids in total were found to have smoked the Mary Jane while on a outdoor education camping trip. I ended up not being expelled. It made the paper and everything. Good times.

Freshman year we had a new basketball coach who was a younger guy and would open the gym up for us to play pick up games
and stuff. Anyway we liked the guy for the most part and felt like he was "one of us". I got the not so brilliant idea that we should
play a prank on him. I talked to my best friend to ask him to show us his new S-10 truck. While my buddy had him distracted I
broke two of those vials of fart smell you could buy at Spencers, and tossed them in the back seat of his new truck. He didn't think
it was funny at all and I was suspended for the next game and my friend was suspended from his game with the JV squad. My
mom came to the game and during warm ups I pretended to twist my ankle and played it off the whole game. I am sure it wasn't
believable at all but it never came up at home. Not sure if my mom and dad knew what happened or not.

I was suspended a few times in junior high school and almost expelled. My offenses:

--altering official school documents related to my academic performance and behavior
--placing a tack on a teacher's chair
--fighting
--starting a fire in science class
--disrupting class, general asshattery

I was a very angry kid.

oh yeah, buddy just reminded me that we got in trouble for throwing snowballs at the ROTC kids while they were marching around the building. It was either detention or suspension. can't remember.

This kid Ryan Beaman sat it front of me in math class in jr high. We hated eachother all throughout grade school, don’t remember why. Anyway, he had the spiky jr high haircut going on at the time. I was chewing gum and bit the gum in half, took one half out of my mouth and rolled it up and gently place it his hair. After a few seconds he didn’t notice and I started laughing uncontrollably. Teacher got pissed and called me out and found out what happened. Got out of school suspension for 3 days and grounded for like 3 months. He got a buzzcut the next day. Worth it.

never suspended or expelled. Detentions were the typical getting caught smoking and cutting class.

I was the Jayson Blair/Stephen Glass of my high school journalism class. Got found out the day after my last day of high school. They threatened 3 Saturday detentions, or don't walk at graduation. In retrospect I should have taken the later punishment.

Got my only detention for not having one of my collars buttoned down. I had come from gym class. Then, when I served the detention we were supposed to bring a textbook. I brought The Pentagon Papers which was a large book but not a textbook. I was actually reading the book for class instead of just staring at it like most other kids in detention. But I was still kicked out and had to serve the detention the next day. Those were my two detentions in HS. I only missed one day in 4 years.

My only suspension was a "fight" in which I got punched and didn't punch back. It was the three days before Christmas break and my parents were actually happy I didn't punch back so it was just like an early break.

It also was a good lesson that Junior High grades mean nothing. Oh, you got a 0 on a couple homework assignment? No big deal.
