The Bears are set to meet with David Amerson on Wednesday, Ian Rapoport of NFL.com tweets. The cornerback also has other free agent visits scheduled, Rapoport adds.

The Raiders cut Amerson on Monday, just before his $5.5MM base salary would have become fully guaranteed. In 2016, the Raiders happily handed him a four-year, $35MM extension after he piled up 58 tackles and a career-best four interceptions in the previous season. He was solid in 2016, but he played in only six games in 2017 thanks to a concussion, shoulder injury, and a foot sprain.

If Amerson is healthy, he could be a major addition to the Bears or other cornerback-needy teams. In the aforementioned breakout campaign of 2015, he graded out as the 14th best cornerback in the league out of 111 qualified players. The 26-year-old’s next deal also figures to come in at a much lower rate than the $8.75MM average annual value of his previous pact.

Both of last year’s starting cornerbacks, Kyle Fuller and Prince Amukamara, are scheduled to be unrestricted free agents. The Bears may look to retain both players, but that could prove to be too pricey, particularly in the case of Fuller. It’s also not a given that the Bears will be comfortable in making a major commitment to Fuller given his up-and-down career.

can't say I'm overly familiar with his work but he sounds young and productive

Bears love to throw money at injured players

When you have no depth due to bad drafting, these are the guys you end up signing.

Sitton GONE
Freeman GONE
Fuller GONE

They are going to go wild in free agency. I expect at least one premier OL and WR to be signed at this point.

This should definitely be an interesting off-season.

It's concerning a rebuilding team seems to be having to do it in free agency.

The core of the offense was drafted. I would expect another high offensive pick.

Jacksonville joined the NFL elite last year by signing free agents.

Pace said he wanted to build through the draft, so it’s a bold strategy trading up and giving away picks every year. Looking forward to moving up 2 spots this year and losing a few more.

Looks like Landry and Robinson are getting tagged.

Seems unlikely to me that they are going to overspend at WR with Laundry and Robinson (probably) off the market. I would expect that they are going to make a splash with one of the 2nd tier WR's to go with Meredith, a draft pick (way too early to say what round) and probably some combination of Wright, White and Inman. They are banking on development from Shaheen and Cohen as well.

With this group, there are a lot of potential options with upside, but also lots of uncertainty.

I don't think we'll see them replace Sitton with another high priced OL. They do need to find another starter and add some quality depth. Will be interesting to see if they look to upgrade the OG spot via free agency or use the draft to find a ready made NFL talent.

Offensively, though, definitely at least 1 WR from outside the organization, and 1-2 OL via draft/free agency.

Defensively, 2 CB's, and OLB are needed.

Jarvis Landry tagged.
Josh Sitton's option for next season to be declined.

Aunt Ginny hasn't decided yet.

I'll see her Saturday and will try and shake an answer loose.

Trying to find where I saw it yesterday, but mostly my opinion.

Combination of the amount of holes they need to fill and their cap situation. They've got room to overpay him for 1 season and buy another year to find a replacement if he won't sign long term.

Letting Sitton go is not a good move. He wasn't cost prohibitive and still has a good season or two left. Now we have to replace another position. Pace puzzles me at times.

The decline is imminent. They are thin at OL, but they were probably going to be thin at OL anyways and they'll be paying $8m less to a guy who probably wasn't going to do them much good. I think they have their hearts set on Zach Fulton taking his place. Or maybe Fulton playing C and Whitehair taking his place at G. Whatever the case, I dont think they cut Sitton without a direct replacement in mind.

I've always hoped the Bears could strive to be the Jacksonville Jaguars.

So the Bears will be tasked in Free agency with getting an offensive lineman to fill a void that Ryan Pace, himself, just created?

Well Fulton is like 6 years younger than Sitton and can play every position on the OL. It's probably an upgrade, and they'll save money.

Not me, I'd take a 10 year starter on the O.L. over White or Floyd.

I'm becoming increasingly convinced that they're going to draft a pass rusher that Fangio won't know how to maximize.
