As I wrote in a different thread, I've gotten hit very hard with the flu since last Friday. This is no ordinary flu this year. Not only is it high fever, chills and potentially delirium causing, coupled with a fast heart rate that may render one's extremities cold, it gives one a very bad case of bronchitis, which is the most worrisome. I was very close to going to the ER, because I couldn't breathe. If you have children who have caught this, I advise extreme caution and that you get in contact with a physician as soon as possible. What I found worked for me was cough syrup with expectorant as well as a anti-histamine like Allegra. That cleared up my air-ways and allowed me to get some rest, without constant hacking. Otherwise, take aspirin for the fever and stay hydrated.

Be well all.

We were in the ER with our 4yo at 2 in the morning on Saturday and it was the flu of course. She's not a big fan of the Tamiflu.

I miss having the little ones (my youngest just turned ten, which makes me feel old), but I don't miss those visits to the ER or the late-night trips to Walgreen's.....stressful stuff.

I recall fondly driving to Walgreens at 3am to pick up a vaporizer and some other stuff. Or the drive to the ER before te realized how damn croupy are middle child was prone to be and how to deal with it. (First kid was never sick. Got an education with second. Okay.. it’s not fond memories but every now and again I’d take a night like that to have them little again. Not that mine are grown by any means but they sure aren’t preschoolers anymore.

How many things do you inject in your body that's about 20% effective?

It's normally more effective than that. However this year it also seems to be helping limit the severity of this flu which is good too.

That can't objectively be proven. And I'm of the generation that was similarly encouraged to take the swine flu vaccinations and then give our kids the ineffectual chicken pox vaccinations that seem to be spurring on incidences of shingles.

And I'm not an anti vaxxer 8)

It can't be proven yet but the initial findings seem to be that a higher percentage of those who have died from the flu this year have been unvaccinated. Something like 85% of the children who have died appear to have been unvaccinated.

What? you're saying 15% of those that have died had been vaccinated? WTF kind of vaccine is that? No one should die if the vaccine actually worked.

It's a mass market vaccine for ALL human beings. It can't be tailored to an individual for 100% effectiveness. Chaos theory man. Shit will happen.

Depends on the day of the week and how many wine spritzers I've had.

I don’t know about conspiracy. They’re just a waste of time if you’re not old, young, or sick.

I'd do anything to go back and enjoy that again since, uh, medical reasons screwed up my time with them. But yeah, that story sounds familiar....I forgot about vaporizers! When little ones get ill, it can be pretty scary.

Whole household got the flu. Lasted about 3 days for each person. No one got shots and no one died. Plenty of fluids and Motrin for the fever. It isn’t rocket science.

At the risk of jinxing myself, I don't think I've ever had the flu. I'm sure I did as a kid, but nothing I can remember.
