So did it live up to the hype? Apparently can’t judge any actual critic reviews.

all of the overreaction to this movie is so immature and idiotic, i'm recommending people to see it just to spite the dumbass trolling.

this is just a flat out good, thoroughly entertaining Marvel movie. it's no different or less entertaining than "spiderman: homecoming" or "guardians of the galaxy" or "thor". they're all on the same level. like GOTG 2 and "homecoming", "black panther" offers a little more depth to the "villain" of the story, which i think strengthens it even more.

it has some big laughs, too. plus, it's beautiful to look at.

and to SD: yes, pretty much anyone over the age of 6 would enjoy the film. it has a nice message about spreading the wealth and helping others to make the world a better place. Wakanda is basically a paradise land with a resource that can heal, destroy, whatever your heart's desire. but it's "hidden in plain sight" so as to protect its people. in the end, it's seen as a bit selfish to preserve it that way, when they could be sharing what they do with the rest of the world.

there is plenty of action, and fighting. again, just like any other Marvel film.

it doesn't deserve the trolling, and it's a shame it has to have that stigma attached. whether critics are telling you to "be on the right side of history", or idiotic alt right morons are trying to destroy its' credibility...just go see it and enjoy it for what it is. if you're not into Marvel films, you probably won't like this one either.

:D :D :D :D out of :D :D :D :D

My 7yr old saw it with his uncle. Hank II loved it, my BIL said it was OK. I’ll check it out in a couple weeks.

Just couldn't watch it the first weekend? Sad!

It was predictable but good. The imagery was powerful for someone black. It was nice to see a different depiction of blacks on the big screen. I would go 3 1/2 out of 5 stars but because of what it could mean for future black or minority films I have to give it 5 stars. MUST SEE IN 3D.

The movie was...good. The CGI was way over the top. Typical Marvel set pieces and humor. Nothing special. They say shit a few times. If the kids can hear a cuss or two, bring them.

Quote:
Marvel's latest hit Black Panther has audiences and critics swooning, and some people will do anything to see it.

That includes moviegoers resorting to tactics you'd only see in cartoons, a la Vincent Adultman from Bojack Horseman.

As per a video by Twitter user @steveslikecups posted on Saturday, two people were spotted in a trenchcoat trying to score themselves a "two for one special" to the movie.

**** SPOILERS ****

Really, really good movie. Not great. As far as Disney Marvel I would rank it below Avengers, both GotG movies, and Thor Ragnorak. It's right there with Winter Soldier, Civil War, and Ant-Man. Much better than the turd Spider man homecoming.

Compared to Fox Marvel I would say it's not on the level of Deadpool, Logan, X2, or DoFP.

Still, strong back story. Great acting. Solid pacing. Nice balance of jokes and drama. I really think Coogler is one of the more talented directors to undertake any super hero film. Some of the cinematography is just gorgeous, and some of it was CGI.

Only big complaint I have is wasting Andy Serkis' character Ulysses Klau. He was arguably one of the best parts of the film, and to kill him off half way through was shitty IMO. He had the potential to be the villain Disney Marvel hasn't been able to recreate since Loki.

Very enjoyable tho, and I'm def looking forward to the Infinity War tie in, as well as the sequel to this film.

it's not really spoiled. i couldn't disagree more about klau. he was about as stock throwaway as you could get. the film didn't lose a step without him. in fact, it improved.

comparing him to loki? holy shit.

Andy Serkis is never stock. Please stop yourself. I'm legitimately offended.

Also, Dunkirk 3 smilies and Black Panther 4?

Loved the movie. Beautiful to watch. Awesome villains. It was on the level of the Dark Knight movies for me. I really like the guy who played Klough. He was perfectly crazy and cruel and that accent creates hate. Strong acting from everyone except maybe the CIA agent. Nyong'o really stands out. She just seems superior in her craft to everyone on the screen and there were some fantastic actors on the screen with her.

A couple of things about the big picture themes surrounding the film: I understand why a superficial viewing would find it empowering to pan Africans. However, look at the story a little closer. The sole reason Wakandans gained any advancement was a fortuitous crash site of a space rock. There is nothing in the story about the people empowering themselves. It was either the rock or panther god that made anything possible. It is not even a matter of them maximizing their resources as it is strongly hinted that the rock is controlling their development. Maybe I haven't read enough reviews but it seems to be a point that has been lost.

Secondly, this is Mary Mitchell's utopia. It is kind of a black empowerment movie. It is really a female black empowerment movie. The men of this film are largely bumbling and foolish making large and small mistakes that hurt everyone. The women are the idealized humans in this story. Perfectly strong, perfectly wise and perfectly intelligent.

I would love to know if the writer was a fan and included the name as a tribute. Probably not but it would be cool if he/she did.

I am not trying to tell the town fathers how to run their business but if I were mayor of Wauconda I'd be trying to use the film as a promotional vehicle.

Are there any black people in Wauconda? What about panthers?

Best they could do is rename the school mascot.

Black Panther first appeared in 1966, pre-dating any other mainstream black super hero.

I saw it as a nod to how special the motherland is and that our creativity and ingenuity is unmatched when we maximize the use of our ability and resources. Also that even when we reach great heights that we should reach back down and pull some folks up with us. I completely agree with your thoughts about black girls/women.
