So, will there be a tour package available in the future?

Useta be da unofishal Forty-Fit Ward headquarters back when Pat was runnin' tings. I don know where dis Arena guy does his drinkin'. Maybe Di's Den or sometin'.

They're a little too spread out for a proper pub crawl.

It's not there anymore. It was condemned for a police station at least a decade ago.

Now it's the Vaughn's Group of pubs. Humble beginnings.

Oh yeah. It's on Northwest Highway now, right?

How about the old Vaughn's on Central near Midway Airport? Such a shithole. I remember playing shows there when we were underage because they wouldn't card us. One time they were so behind on their bills, the power was cut off so they were serving only mixed drinks that could make with canned soda, and beer that was being kept cold in tubs of ice. We had to plug in our amps to a generator they had going out in the back.

6. Shamrock Club (proper downtown dump)

 I ate dinner next door the other night and almost stopped inside for one. Ended up going to the Sovereign instead. While dykes and some neighborhood straights do drink at the Anvil, I'd consider it a gay bar for men.

What about Streeters? and Pippin's? off Division and Rush. Back when you could smoke in bars Pippin's would burn a damn hole in your eyes   Lack of ventilation and a tightly confined space made for a truly bad/good drinking experience. That would be my kickoff spot on Fridays before I got out in the world. Boss Bar on Hubbard was one of my spots also.

Skylark is that one at halsted/cermak that Vince Vaughn put in one of his movies, right? Ever ran into him out in the field of excellence, JORR?

I do not know Vince Vaughn. My ex-wife is friends with him on Facebook and it seems as if they may have some North Shore connection.

I watched Ireland beat Italy in the World Cup there in '94.....the South Side Vaughn's was nice, but with a clientele that became psycho.

An apt description in its later years, Frank. It reminded me of college; they used snow to keep the stuff cold.

Was once a place of some repute, I believe.

You are right. I was told when I moved into Edgewater that if I was low on cash to head for the Anvil and have a drink bought for me for a change. I appreciated the advice but I would feel bad conning someone into thinking I was gay.

Where you trying the (somewhat overpriced) cocktails at Revival? Or the pizza at Gino's North (excellent back bar BTW).

We should grab a beer at the Sov JORR

I was at Revival. I just had my go to Johnnie Black & soda. My wife had some specialty Manhattan that was on the cocktail menu.

I miss the old Gino's North sign. The Pumping Company used to be my Wednesday night spot for quarter beers. I was the last one in my crew to turn 21 and I could still get in there. Char-Lar was a four o'clock stop in those days. Not many late night places left. Chaser's and Fiddler's Green on Devon are long gone too.

I would totally meet you at the Sov for a few.

I had an apartment at The Sovereign my junior year of college ('90). At that time there was a mixture of students, Jesuits, nuns, and "regular" people. Is it still like that?

IIRC there was an Italian (I think...) restaurant in there at the time that I don't recall ever being busy. I can picture it but can't remember the name. The building manager's (or whatever his title was -- he had an office on the first floor) name was Mr. Armetta.

The Sovreign apartment building is still there. The first floor is a Thai restaurant and there is a fitness club as well.

The Sovreign we are talking about is on Broadway. It's a legit dive but in a good way.
