I can’t see it getting that bad in our lifetimes but if it did and the 1A was officially repealed and political speech was criminalized then diplomacy is officially off the table, obviously.

I understand the move argument put forth by KD but FUCK THAT. This is my home. I’m never going to live anywhere else.

This is already imminent and will happen within a decade.

Jason Goff over here.

No it won’t. There will always be a couple of examples of LEOs overstepping their bounds on this but that’s nothing new. You’re simply wrong if you think something as drastic as the repeal of the 1A will happen by 2028.

No. It won't. Not suddenly. Slowly. We'll go out with a whimper.

edit- maybe not an official repeal, but they'll criminalize speech that "oppresses people" which is functionally identical.

Just saw your edit.

No they won’t. They know how far they can stretch things peacefully.

Would you agree that we're heading toward an environment in which speech that makes someone uncomfortable is being disallowed? Say... safe spaces or trigger rules?

You ever met us before? Have some faith. We aren’t going out like some limp dicked Britains did regarding the 1A. The freedom to speak your mind with no ramifications from the government is as close to a secular religion as we have in this country. We aren’t giving that shit up. I realize we can both find some current examples thag contradict that opinion but I’d say if you look at the totality of our population there’s no doubt.

I know some left wing fringe types have officially come out against due process, free speech, etc, but I believe a good 70%+ of ALL Americans would find it unacceptable and even fight-worthy if the government ever seriously considered repealing it.

It's ok Darko. No response needed. We know this is another thread about the 2A and if they showed up to take your guns you would be a coward. Thanks for the confirmation though.

I would not agree.

I do agree that there is a segment of the far left that is loudly pushing for that, but from what I can tell it’s been solidly rebuked every time by the general population.

Lol. Baby you're an amusing guy.
I've been called many things in my life. I've never been called a coward.
But how you boil it all down to a single altercation between a Leo and a regular guy... I think this illustrated quite well that you don't understand the question nor do you understand the issues. I don't think you understand much at all about this kind of discussion. Or tactics.

Stop being so disingenuous all the time. There’s a reason why even the most liberal posters on this board hate your posting style.

Darko says he won’t kill police who try to take his guns - he’s a coward.

Darko says he will fight to the death to protect his rights - he’s a gun nut and part of the problem.

You keep trying to argue both above statements. Make up your mind and then come back and post.

Which is why they wont repeal it.

They will parade the destruction of free speech around as the greatest moment in the history of free speech.

Seems to me like it's out there. Like it's happening... Perhaps nonlegal actions yet but we're seeing institutions limit free speech in the name of pc and it's creating a desensitization to how powerful free speech is.
Just for kicks ask around people under 30 and ask what free speech really is. They don't seem to know.

A few lunatics will try. The rest will mock them. You’re simply wrong on this whole “America as we know it is dead and gone” narrative.

You would have never survived the 60’s I’m guessing.

It is already an obsession of the left to gleefully point out all the ways speech they dont like isn't protected. Its only a matter of time before the gap between "ruined socially and financially" and prison is bridged.

Come on man. There are plenty of people under 30 who understand what free speech is, the importance of it, and are willing to fight for it. Don’t become that “Old Guy Yells At Cloud” guy who thinks anyone under 30 is incapable of wiping their own ass. The Parkland students speaking out on cable news in no way singlularly represent our up and coming generation. The youth will be just fine.

I dunno man. I see plenty of misunderstanding of the amendment right here on this site. I can't go a day without seeing some twat on tv or Facebook yell free speech when they get canned for saying shit on social media or whatever. I don't believe our schools are educating our children properly.
Yeah there's a lot of smart and talented kids. No doubt. Overall... I'm skeptical.

FF, the wind isn't blowing your direction. If you dont see what were talking about now you will soon. The number of Americans who support the 1A, or at least the principle of free speech, is dwindling rapidly. Just because we aren't there now doesn't mean its not where we are obviously going. By the time we get there it'll be too late to do anything. They aren't even going to let you leave.

I don’t disagree, I just don’t think that’s a convincing argument. It’s like the George Carlin skit - today’s youth are like every past generation - some winners and a whole lot of losers.

People have been misunderstanding what free speech is for the entirety of our country’s history. I don’t expect that to suddenly change.

You said it yourself - plenty of middle aged people will bitch if they say some dumb/offensive shit on FB and call “free speech!” This isn’t a generational issue. It’s a People Are Dumb issue.

Send the "disingenuous" back at Darko. We already went down the "I will stand up for my 2A rights with my guns!" argument with Ogie. It did not end well.

To try to frame this as free speech going away is so far out into left field that it should have been swatted down in 5 seconds. In fact the king of "stop using hypotheticals" should never have posted it in the first place.

This is nothing more than yet another gun thread.

Source?

Your biggest problem if you aren’t trolling is that you seriously underestimate Americans ability and willingness to fight and die for what they believe in. Free speech isn’t going anywhere in my lifetime without a full blown civil war.

Yes because the threat of our free speech being taken is imminent.

By the time we get there it'll be too late to do anything. They aren't even going to let you leave.

Your biggest problem if you aren’t trolling is that you seriously underestimate Americans ability and willingness to fight and die for what they believe in. Free speech isn’t going anywhere in my lifetime without a full blown civil war.

The responses in this thread are making me understand his underestimation. Have you read some of these replies?

Again, they'll sell it as making speech MORE free. Not the other way around. Politicians are experts at this time of contradictory branding. Patriot Act anyone?

Yeah, I don’t think they are representative of this country. Like Hatchetman and others have said, the vast majority of this board simply has ZERO understanding of rural America.

Yes because the threat of our free speech being taken is imminent.

As the kids would say "bitch please"

Don't be ignorant. It's a question that is meant to be a barometer. You've done your part illustrating perfectly that you're not willing to stand up for yourself. You clearly expect others to do it for you.
That's ok. There's plenty of people who will stand up for you.

They aren't and I feel there is a good amount of censorship and feelings being first and foremost. It isn't fringe or left. It's very mainstream.
