Favre and I both gave answers.

So you'd comply or go to jail.

The problem is that you are asking Americans. Nobody on this board views the hypothesis as a comply or go to jail (or fight to the death) option. It’s just not seen as realistic. When things get out of hand the public responds and politicians retreat. We’re already seeing it with Trump. The pendulum swings both ways. Extreme political actions inevitably face a strong backlash and our representatives quake and convert.

I honestly don't believe that the maority of Americans would go to war over free speech. Its interesting that Fareed Zakarah just addressed this very thing on Sunday. Democracy worldwide (according to him at least) is on a downswing. That includes America too.

I dunno man. I see plenty of misunderstanding of the amendment right here on this site. I can't go a day without seeing some twat on tv or Facebook yell free speech when they get canned for saying shit on social media or whatever. I don't believe our schools are educating our children properly.
Yeah there's a lot of smart and talented kids. No doubt. Overall... I'm skeptical.

They aren't and I feel there is a good amount of censorship and feelings being first and foremost. It isn't fringe or left. It's very mainstream.

Again, I would argue that’s always been the case. I learned a lot of shit I eventually found out was bullshit in school. It’s not a new thing.

I'm very proud of what I see from MANY young folks. Yeah I question their mental and physical toughness at times but our parents questioned ours and their parents questioned theirs. The future is very bright.

This is the kind of response I was hoping to get. It's genuine. It's well thought out.

Maybe it's because I don't have kids. Maybe most of my experience with them is peripheral which is why I get the feeling they're entitled and aren't willing to work hard for what they want. Easy credit. Pushed into university rather than trade schools. Shit like that

Schools are part of the problem to be sure. Parenting is too. There's no single problem.

Don't be ignorant. It's a question that is meant to be a barometer. You've done your part illustrating perfectly that you're not willing to stand up for yourself. You clearly expect others to do it for you.
That's ok. There's plenty of people who will stand up for you.

There have been MANY who have given the exact same response as I have to your fairy tale question.

Much of the public now believes it though. Some of it get celebrated. That wasn't the case when we were young.

I'd like to think I'd stand up and risk myself. I haven't really given it a whole lot of thought before this.

I also don't see America as bad off as MANY seem to. I don't think there's any real danger of outlawing free speech, nor do I see a sizable portion of mainstream Americans calling for a repeal of any other amendment not named in the original post.

I guess we’d have to define what “part of the problem” means. I think they’re generally dealt a bad hand. They’re expected to deal with kids on each end of the spectrum, often with little help and a stretched budget. Of course there are bad teachers but that’s always been the case. If we have to choose I’d be more likely to blame parenting but that’s another argument. “There’s no single problem” is the understatement of the year so far.

Well the important thing here is that we can judge ourselves and others because we all know exactly what we'd do in a completely vague and hypothetical situations.

Well... It's interesting from a social experimentation standpoint. Of course no one really knows how they react to a situation, right, but we're asked to think about our response to a hypothetical situation all the time. We ask our politicians how they'd react to situations in every town hall or debate we see. Cops are expected to prepare for situations that could but probably never will present themselves in the line of duty. Shit like that.

Say what you will about America, but his assertion that many Americans have disdain for American values is true.

You know why some wouldnt die for the 1A? Because deep down, they hold contempt for those who are proud of their country’s values.
