I want to believe you are correct but I really don't think so.

Also, I don't believe it would happen the way some of you imagine. It's not gonna be some Trump-like dope being a dictator and ordering you to shut up. It begins with silencing stuff that is easy to silence, like "the n-word" for example. You see we can't even type it and instead use a childish construction although we all know what it means. But who is going to argue for the right to use that word? Some will, but you look like an asshole if you do. And it expands from there. Sure, that word offends Regular Reader, but guaranteed there are guys here offended by the word "retarded" or even "fat". The next thing you know free speech doesn't exist. The First Amendment isn't designed to protect my ability to say, "You guys are all wonderful!" That requires no protection. Although now that I think about it, Baby and BRick might argue about it.

Political correctness and free speech are only connected in a small way.

But political correctness is only the tip of the spear. You have more and more groups on college campuses thinking the first amendment should be restricted or even canned due to their inherent belief of not wanting to be offended. These derelicts will graduate and spread their bullshit to others and eventually procreate to continue the cycle. It will only get worse. It's not going to be fast, but it will slowly fester.

As TS Eliot said, "This is the way the world ends. Not with a bang. But with a whimper"
I'm guessing they've said this about colleges for at least 50 years.

What the hell are you talking about? College was once where people went to exchange ideas. You have some strange world views.

It still is regardless of the "Baby down a well" syndrome.

That's just people getting older. I'm sure my grandparents felt the same about my generation at age 20.

The difference being, those students were demanding the right to be heard as opposed to attempting to deny others such a right.

Here's the difference. During Vietnam, you had the government and authorities trying to curb free speech. Now, you have the people themselves wanting to curb it. Those kids in the 60s were fighting to say what the kids now are fighting to prohibit.

My experience has shown me that MANY that complain about politically correct language are some of the most sensitive people you'll ever meet. Look no further than MANY who post here. It's pretty much "I should be able to offend everyone but no one should offend me."

MREs have gotten better since my first one but I refuse to eat that shit outside of Afghanistan or Iraq.

If push came to shove I would eat it ahead of dog food.

The Tuna and Chili Mac were solid.

That’s not a straw man.

All the “This generation is fucked, we are done for, blah blah blah” shit is just that. Bullshit. And it’s been said for nearly the entirely of our country and most of human civilization.

It’s just a weak, lazy way to criticize younger generations. There’s zero truth or profundity behind the observation.

It’s not and you’re wrong. Study history. Then come back to the discussion.

No, what's lazy is to act like the current criticism is just like all others. The current problem involves administrators and educators as much as it does students. It is also welcomed by Hollywood and a lot of the media. It's hard to argue against people trying to suppress free speech because they eventually silence everyone else first.
