How in Hell is Long still on the team but Matt Slauson and Josh Sitton were unceremoniously dumped?
Unless Pace is eyeing some bodies in FA,the Bears along with their QB is going to have a long season AGAIN!

Also, just in case Mitch falls back or gets injured, who's #2???

He's struggling staying healthy but I would give him 1 more season.

He's usually really good when he's healthy.

If they keep him one more year ... spoiler alert: they will ... his cap hit is about $8.85 mil ... releasing him still hits the cap @ $4.5 mil this year never mind subsequent years' residual effects. He's not going to be traded, at least this year, so right now it's all or nothing. No reason not to see if he can get it together - the Bears aren't remotely hurting for cap space.

as for jimmy's second question the Bears are very publicly in the market for a backup but have not said how they plan on acquiring one. I wouldn't rule out the draft.

Plenty of free agent and QBs in the draft this year. The problem is lack of receivers to go after. I think you build both lines up this year.

I'm gonna guess Chase Daniel on this one.

I thought I heard somewhere that Mike Glennon is a free agent ... maybe give him a look?

Anyway .... Available UFA QBs: http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/free-agents/offense/available/

Tyler Bray is a possibility; 3rd string QB for KC the past 5 years.

It was dumb to even have Long play this season, the guy needed 3 surgeries coming into this year..he got one done, should have let him take the year off and get right.. I dont think Long will ever be healthy again.

He's had two surgeries this off season, one on the neck and one on the shoulder

Quote:
Chiefs, Bears could have “bidding war” for Chase Daniel
by Matt Conner

The Kansas City Chiefs and Chicago Bears are two teams with reported interest in free agent quarterback Chase Daniel, which could mean a “bidding war.”
While most of the attention in the NFL offseason is on the potential starting quarterbacks available on the market for teams with significant needs at the position, Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports say a “bidding war” could heat up for a certain back-up quarterback.

Chase Daniel is the reportedly hot name for at least a few teams, including the New Orleans Saints, Chicago Bears and Kansas City Chiefs. Daniel has been the back-up quarterback for the former behind Drew Brees for the last few years, but the coaching staffs for both the latter teams are also quite familiar with Daniel and what he can bring.

Daniel is a common name floated to return to the Chiefs for the sake of the empty depth chart behind second-year quarterback (and first-time starter) Patrick Mahomes. Daniel is a seasoned pro who could potential step in and win a couple games if needed and yet has been comfortable in an understudy role for years. He’s competitive and has wanted a starting spot in years past, but he’s never been able to command such an opportunity.

La Canfora’s report notes that fans should “anticipate a bidding war” over Daniel between the Bears and Chiefs in particular, though he also explains that the Saints will be interested as well. That’s a lot of fanfare for a back-up but both Chicago and K.C. have young rookies who could use a veteran who knows the offense on the sideline and in the film room.

Daniel played in Kansas City for three seasons behind Alex Smith until 2016 when he returned to the Saints, the team that drafted him in 2010 out of the University of Missouri. The Bears staff are familiar with Daniel because their new head coach, Matt Nagy, was a member of Andy Reid’s coaching staff during Daniel’s tenure.

The idea of adding Daniel is certainly a popular one and would be a nice addition to the team, but the Chiefs have limited cap room and the idea of a bidding war going to back-up quarterback versus important holes on the defense is a frustrating idea. Perhaps “bidding war” insinuates a bit too much, but if it gets too expensive, the Chiefs would be wise to have other options at the ready.

^Getting into a 'bidding war' over a back up QB is so fucking stupid, it's also so fucking Bear.

Anyway, with moves like this it looks more and more (atm anyway) like the Bears are eying an interior linemen with that 8 pick. And it's just stupid if they are. They need to land a playmaker with that pick and landing those guys later in the draft gets harder while landing a good interior linemen later doesn't. I'll say it again, as I've said every draft with this guy: Pace doesn't know what he's doing.

We'll see tho. It's still very early to nail down judgement here, I'm just going off past head scratching decisions by this guy and this seems to be leaning in that direction based off of that.

I would be floored if Pace drafted an interior OL at 1.

I know 3 years isn't a lot but his picks have all been impact positions

I hope I'm reading the signs wrong -but I wouldn't be floored if he did it.

Btw, who's doing the prospects (guys you like) thread this year? I was thinking of getting one up soon, but I'm waiting for the draft guide I like to go into print, I haven't sat down and watched many vids yet either. But we're starting to get to that point tho.

My prediction was that the Bears guy is Trumaine Edwards from VT

He's gotta be scared to draft a WR in the top 10

I think I may have to amend this prediction post combine. Davenport seems Pacier than even Edmunds.

Backup QB wise - they have to be looking for someone who they can win with.....Someone mentioned a 3rd QB from KC and I don't see that. Pace and Nagy are in a position to win now rather than keep rebuilding.
