as for jimmy's second question the Bears are very publicly in the market for a backup but have not said how they plan on acquiring one. I wouldn't rule out the draft.

Chiefs, Bears could have “bidding war” for Chase Daniel

The Kansas City Chiefs and Chicago Bears are two teams with reported interest in free agent quarterback Chase Daniel, which could mean a “bidding war.”
While most of the attention in the NFL offseason is on the potential starting quarterbacks available on the market for teams with significant needs at the position, Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports say a “bidding war” could heat up for a certain back-up quarterback.

Chase Daniel is the reportedly hot name for at least a few teams, including the New Orleans Saints, Chicago Bears and Kansas City Chiefs. Daniel has been the back-up quarterback for the former behind Drew Brees for the last few years, but the coaching staffs for both the latter teams are also quite familiar with Daniel and what he can bring.

Daniel is a common name floated to return to the Chiefs for the sake of the empty depth chart behind second-year quarterback (and first-time starter) Patrick Mahomes. Daniel is a seasoned pro who could potential step in and win a couple games if needed and yet has been comfortable in an understudy role for years. He’s competitive and has wanted a starting spot in years past, but he’s never been able to command such an opportunity.

La Canfora’s report notes that fans should “anticipate a bidding war” over Daniel between the Bears and Chiefs in particular, though he also explains that the Saints will be interested as well. That’s a lot of fanfare for a back-up but both Chicago and K.C. have young rookies who could use a veteran who knows the offense on the sideline and in the film room.

Daniel played in Kansas City for three seasons behind Alex Smith until 2016 when he returned to the Saints, the team that drafted him in 2010 out of the University of Missouri. The Bears staff are familiar with Daniel because their new head coach, Matt Nagy, was a member of Andy Reid’s coaching staff during Daniel’s tenure.

The idea of adding Daniel is certainly a popular one and would be a nice addition to the team, but the Chiefs have limited cap room and the idea of a bidding war going to back-up quarterback versus important holes on the defense is a frustrating idea. Perhaps “bidding war” insinuates a bit too much, but if it gets too expensive, the Chiefs would be wise to have other options at the ready.
