Jack might be the greatest living actor, but I don't think his performance in Burton's Batman was very good. He basically was being Jack with white face paint and green hair. There was nothing comically insidious about his character at all, which is what the Joker is supposed to be.

Nor was Ledger's portrayal any better. He was just a homicidal psycho, a forgettable character. The movie as a whole sucked.

I think Cesar Romero from the original Batman series did the best job, even with his mustache painted over. That's because he was a little mad, and he laughed a lot. The two Jokers above were just sick-minded and depraved, with nothing likable about them. The Joker still has to be likable, that's his charm.

Frank Gorshin's Riddler still ranks #1 as best all-time Batman villain portrayal.

I read that they might bring him into the Fast and Furious franchise.

No I would never make a thread like this.

Just to give a real opinion here, Ledger's Joker was one of the best acting performances I've ever seen in my life. Even ten years later I remember driving home from a packed theater on the opening night of "Dark Knight" thinking Ledger's Joker would be mentioned as iconic in a long list of film villains. The bank robbing scene, the mob mtg intro, the fund raiser scene, and the interrogation scene are head and shoulders above any comic book villain scenes you have ever seen so far. Unfortunately, that role killed him, and we didn't get the Batman vs. Joker film that was planned for the third movie in the trilogy. Honestly, comic book or not, who's a better overall villain in movie history?

Nicholson's Joker was more of a comic caricature, and great for the time the movie was released. I appreciate it, but Ledger's performance was unmistakably one of a kind.

I've said it before but I was legit depressed or at least bummed out walking out of that movie because Heath was so good in that movie. Every other superhero movie has to live up to this movie and NONE have. My favorite movie of all time.

Romero was great at the Joker in the TV series but he will now be the 2nd best Joker.

ledger's was a virtuoso performance. nicholson was being nicholson. he was campy and fun but had that dark edginess that made it real. he definitely brought the joker into the new age. i mean we were in the "dark knight" era of batman anyway. the frank miller and alan moore joker had turned him into an absolute psychopath.
