Truly an end of an era... WLUP/97.9 The Loop has been sold to religious broadcaster EMF. The rock music will come to an end for the 1st time in over 41 years to become the syndicated "K-Love" Christian music format.

Wow, this is sad. I had a “Loop” tee-shirt back in the day— the black one with white lettering, like every other cool kid was wearing—that shirt announced “street cred” in the burbs.

They also had that husky-voiced hot blonde in their ads (Lorelei?).

nah, just had to reference the most famous chapter in WLUP's history.

I wish I could've been alive to watch Harry Caray begging fans to return to their seats after tearing up the field and lighting the outfield grass on fire.

I never quite know which was the worst point in Sox history, that debacle or Eddie Murray's line shot in the unfortunate Friday night playoff game.

That T-shirt and the way she framed her cans with her arms made a young PM very happy.

The benignly named "Educational Media Foundation" also bought South Florida's classical stations and flipped them to contemporary Christian music a couple years ago. Apparently they have money to burn. I wonder where they get it.

People buying themselves into heaven by supporting stations that won't play songs of a woman with too large of a bra size.

So that's why Katy Perry changed genres.

Have and wore the black shirt back in the day too but let's face it, the classic rock format as it currently exists is annoying. They play the same songs over and over and now I can't stand to hear them anymore. Instead of doing deep cuts, album sides and classic FM stuff, they play top 250 or whatever classic rock.

Sad but not surprising.

Here's a great 3 minute clip, of Harry and Jimmy promoting "Teen Night" i.e. Disco demolition...mis-pronouncing the call letters,
and at the end Harry catches a foul ball in his net. You're welcome.....

Selling for $21 million when WNIB sold for $165 million in 2001. Shows the state of the radio industry.

This station should have been killed at least 15 years ago. The Loop is a perfect example of everything that is wrong with radio today.

Nah, one station has been destroyed due to bad decisions, and on the other hand an entire industry has been destroyed by decades of poor management and mergers/acquisitions.

I just heard the station will be automated until the format change. No formal goodbye will be done. Pretty shitty thing to happen for a station that has existed for this long in this market.

I ignored his pleas that night.

When he started doing Cubs games, he was officially dead to me.
