A school administrator and police/corrections officer/social worker that would have the balls to straighten out the mother on who is actually the problem child, for one. A bid in a juvenile detention center for one of his MANY assaults/batteries of other students, for another.

In Indiana they would've sent his ass to an alternative school. That seems more than appropriate here. This kid should be nowhere near students who are trying to learn.

Hopefully his family sees the transfer as a wake up call and actually begins forming the support structure which obviously wasn't there and allowed the behavior, which got him transferred in the first place, to transpire.

You guys have it all wrong. It is not the misunderstood bully you bleeding hearts all want to give a thousand chances to that you have to worry about. The shooter you create is going to be the quiet kid in the corner that get picked on all the time by the bully. He says to himself why are they protecting him and not me?

He walks in one day and takes as many out as he can.

It's hard to change adults. More likely than not a shitty adult will always be one. I'm more interested in stopping that cycle. It's definitely not too late for a child.

So we put him in a school to babysit him for about 6 hours and just hope he turns it around on his own? Essentially throw away a preteen.

Can the government seize custody of him, or does this shitty parent get to stick the government and our society with her failings but still corrupt him at home?

The parents don't get a pass. We can't really help them. I'm more concerned about making surr he doesn't become them. MANY kids like that are just looking for someone to care.

There is a guy I know who is a fixer of people. He’s had a lot of folks come through his employment that were in serious trouble and he put them back together. Mostly it’s having someone around who listens and showing some stability in someone who cares. I’m watching him basically reprogram an idiot 40 year old right now but his son tells me has lots of brothers and sisters from over the years of him taking theses kids with worthless parents under his wing. That’s all a lot of these kids need. Unfortunately there are so many terrible people who take advantage of these situations.

The "restorative justice" movement has been en vogue in public education for the past 10-15 years at least. SB-100 which Caller Bob speaks is an off shoot of the overall movement. SB 100 was actually spearheaded by a group of kids from Roosevelt High School. They petitioned the state legislature to change the rules regarding discipline and the state legislature acquiesced. Not once did anyone stop to think that their (student) advocacy was essentially a self serving measure

I'm not a fan of restorative justice because it will invariably make the perpetrator of the act the victim. There is a need to find an equivocation for each and every action committed by misbehaving kids.

That is why this particular principal chose to focus on the "humiliation" of the bully. That is what proponents of Restorative Justice always do. He had to find something to hang on the victims and that was probably the only thing that he could come up with.

They outlawed "zero tolerance" years ago and as a result its difficult to simply put kids out. There is a belief that repeatedly suspending kids doesn't work. No one wants to deny children a quality education but there are times when there is no other alternative.
