When I was little, my dad used to say "jumping Jesus on a pogo stick" when he was frustrated with me. Years later, we would listen to his old Loop airchecks in the car and I realized he stole that line from the Dead Milkmen. DO YOU KNOW WHAT THE QUEERS ARE DOING TO THE SOIL?!?

Eddie Murphy's "Boogie In Your Butt" was also on one of those. That was a favorite as a 13-year-old.

Hopefully he doesn't bring that creepy voiced Brendan Greeley with him. That guy is awful.

I tuned in around 5 and I guess he had been on for a few hours at that point. I heard Patty Haze and Dahl's wife, Janet, who sounds crazy.

I guess he also had on a lot of other people who had worked at the station over the years, but Garry Meier declined to appear.

There was that one day in 2006 when Dahl ran into Meier when broadcasting live, invited him to join on air, and they got on well enough that people were speculating about a permanent reunion for about a year after that. What the hell happened since then?

Dahl is old. Meier much older than him. Probably done and not much else to do

I caught a few hours of it. Some of it was bad. Some of it was kind of funny, and some of it was sad just thinking of what The Loop once was. I heard when he had Mitch Michaels on and then later Johnny B, Buzz Kilman and Bruce Wolf. Bruce talked about how Johnny B got him fired, and then Bruce did some long bad monologue as Chet and Johnny B hung up in the middle of it. Buzz said he was hoping it was Chet Coppock that called in. That was pretty funny.

Last song I heard on the air around 10 pm was Money by Pink Floyd :|

I tuned in, "heard" 5 seconds of dead air, and figured, boy, this is just like the old Dahl show!

101.1 HD2 appears to have replaced their jazz format with something they're calling "WLUP." I heard Crazy Train three times on my drive in so it must be legit.

Cumulus finally agreed to buy WKQX and the Loop IP from Randy Michaels. There's some light speculation that it's moving to 94.7 and putting WLS-FM out of business. Not sure how I feel about that.

94.7 is dogshit. It should be put down because ME-TV radio (or whatever it's called) is running the same format and doing it significantally better at almost zero cost. Obviously the format the loop had at the end was also stale, so hopefully this would allow them to re-work it and re-launch a new loop, but I won't hold my breath on that.

Well, classic rock and classic hits are equally dead formats. Consultants killed them. It's just a matter of which demise upsets you more.

The only things LS-FM has going for it are the old jingle package and the name recognition of a few jocks who, because of consultants, aren't allowed to speak anyway. They're too cowardly to play much of anything that isn't by white males of the '70s and '80s because someone somewhere is 5% more likely to change the station if the song is too old, too female, or too black, again, because of consultants. An oldies format done right has a higher ceiling than classic rock, but how likely is that when they can't even call it oldies?

But now that K-Hits is dead, you could argue that it's smart to hang on to the format. I might even suggest that they're better off killing KQX.

I watched a documentary on WLIR the other day. I wonder when a documentary on the Loop will get done. If they can make new wave interesting the Loop would be a riot.

In case you were wondering, the Drive has indeed inherited Twofer Tuesday. In a surprising turn of events, the promotions chick with the big cans was claimed by WBEZ.

WFMT recently started "Gettin' the Liszt Out" weekdays at 6:30 P.M.

These EMF guys are relentless. Last month, they bought three stations from a HBCU in Raleigh and flipped them to K-Love:

https://current.org/2018/03/n-c-univers ... oadcaster/
Quote:
Shaw University in Raleigh, N.C., announced last week that it sold WSHA, its long-running public radio station, and two additional frequencies to religious broadcaster Educational Media Foundation.

The university sold the station to help fund modernization of its communications department, according to a press release.

WSHA airs a mix of jazz, public affairs and NPR and PRI programming. It will continue to operate online.

EMF will receive WSHA 88.9 FM in Raleigh and two translators in Rocky Mount and Fayetteville. The university will keep the call letters and broadcasting equipment. The university did not release a sale price, and university and station representatives did not respond to requests for comment.

EMF is now getting its dirty Christian hands on 103.9 The Fox up in Crystal Lake, which had kind of been a Loop-in-exile. They even have to buy up the suburban classic rock stations, huh.
