Blind loyalty, advertising, politics, brand management, funding, etc... the same reason a lot of America votes.

My point isn't really specific to Sanders. I just get a kick out of people who grew up in urban areas who project their emphasis on ethnic identification to everyone else. There simply isn't this focus on white ethnicities everywhere like there is on, say, the North Shore of Chicago or Manhattan, or South Boston. It exists in other areas but to a much lesser extent. A lot of people in rural or more Southern areas don't even know what ethnicity they are. A Northern Jew is the same as a Northern Irish Catholic to them: a yankee.
