Talk about swiftly going down the shitter. If I need something quick it's great to have a grocery store 10 minute walk away. But Mariano's no longer gets basics right let alone the fancy shit for Chad and Becky. Their produce is dog shit. The quality blows and the selection is limited. Instead of small bundles of cilantro for 50 cents like everyone else in this damn city they're pawning off bundles that'll last a month for .89. Motherfuckers, no one needs that much cilantro. There were like 6 bundles of bananas on Sunday at 3pm. I get it...Sunday...busy shopping day. So be prepared with proper inventory levels assholes! The selection and pricing for ethnic packaged goods sucks shit too. Great if you need quinoa crackers and artisinal goat cheese. Bad if you need chipotle peppers in adobo sauce.

Oh but they're always on point with their bar. Always stocked with 4 taps, liquor, frozen margs and daquiris, rose, prosseco, etc etc etc. Piano player fooling all the shoppers into thinking they're classy assholes because they shop to live jazz piano.

Anyone try the homemade guacamole they make fresh in the produce area? It looks like they make enough to feed an army, so it must be popular.

They can't even get bananas regularly stocked.

Garden Fresh runs circles around Mariano's. That's a grocery that gets it right.

I've never sought out bananas at Mariano's and been unsuccessful. Maybe that location by you sucks.

i wont go that far... but i will agree with some of the produce declining at my location. also, those kids are wearing clip on ties!!! wtf! they have 20 check out counters, but at most 5 are active... ever

still their bakery items are awesome and most things are way cheaper than the jewels

Sometimes I like my trips to Mariano's and sometimes it's not a good experience. I go back and forth.

Mariano's is sort of like Woodman's up in Kenosha for me: it fills a niche, just not one I fit into. I get packaged "traditional American" food at Walmart/Meijer/Costco, ethnic stuff and deli cold meat at Pete's, and I stop at Whole Foods when I want prepared foods from the deli case and some high end crap I like. That covers 95% of what I purchase.

Be careful with Marianos - check your receipt! I only buy a few items when I go there and they over charge me about 50% of the time.

I'm sure the quality of fish is on par with long john silvers , but it's a reasonably healthy and fairly cheap meal once in awhile

What I hate is staffing the express checkout lane with a 18 year old kid that can't ring up alcohol. So you have turned the express into a delay because they've got to call someone over to scan the wine for someone who is obviously 50 years old at least.

I loved the self scanning, it was so fast and I even learned their weighing tests and had that down pretty well. I could push 30 items through in about 2 minutes, and then another 30 seconds to pay.

Don't really have that problem up north.

There are so many grocery stores in the Mundelein/Vernon Hills/Libertyville/Buffalo Grove area that they must have just about everything, or we'll just go a half mile down the road.

Mariano's in Oak Lawn has never treated me poorly in the odd occasion I stumble up there. They've got a lot of cool shit, including but not limited to Mother's Milk tea.
