Tell me why this is a bad idea.

Worst depreciation/resale value of any make. On the other hand, I know people who have Wranglers with 300-400k miles on them with little maintenance/repairs required.

Wranglers are great, but don't buy that ugly looking 4 door one. The rest of their lineup: Keep it.

Anything to do w/Chrysler is a big mistake. The product is really bad.

Wranglers are way too top heavy.

Dodge and Jeep have the worst reliability ratings from Consumer Reports.

I thought about buying a Jeep about 20 years ago and they were terrible back then too. Why the hell can't they get their act together?

Jeep's scores across the board are horrifying.

Also, their "legendary" four-wheel drive is bullshit. My buddy has some property in SW Michigan. On that property, is his "yard truck". It's an old Chevy Trail Blazer with 4WD. Our buddy brought his Jeep out there, and got stuck. The Chevy had to pull the Jeep out of the mud. Jeep's only have 2WD and 4WD. The Chevy has 2W, 4W high, and 4W low.

OK. I guess I'll just get a Honda Accord instead.

A fine choice. Consider a Toyota as well.

Agreed.

I am a firm believer in Consumer Report reliability ratings for vehicles. I'll gladly give up a little performance for a reliable vehicle. Toyota, Honda, and Subura all get great ratings pretty much across the board.

My wife has a jeep.
I hate it.
Especially the "I'd rather be listening to the new kids on the block" license plate holder.
It feels like a cheap ass vehicle.

Do you want an SUV? GM and Ford are both making much better SUV's than Jeep/Dodge/Chrysler now.

I wouldn't buy an FCA vehicle at half of MSRP. So many automakers have their shit together nowadays, why pick the one that doesn't?

The Mrs. has a 2011 Wrangler.

She wants to get a new one. They look cool, and the top and doors off is sweet in the summer. The city parking is glorious with short wheelbase and tight turning radius.

It is a pain in the ass. The seasonal swap from hard to soft top is precarious, and she has a nice stash spot for the hard top in her parents garage.

The canvas soft top is awful for road noise. And it leaks when there is heavy rain on the passenger side.

Maybe you should just lease one.
