It was a comfortable listen today. Bernstein can be funny. Goff laughs at his own stupid jokes to tell you he's funny. It's a nervous listen with Goff because he dominates, interrupts and screams. Did I mention the constant laughter?

And all of Goff's thoughts are Bernstein's thoughts anyway. They were taught to him through the years. So what's the point of the less intelligent, less funny guy being a parrot of the other guy when the lessor guy dominates the talk? There is no point.

Plus the SCORE would save money.

Let's say Bernstein makes 400k and Goff makes 150k. So give Bernstein 450k. You save 100k. Bernstein would take it. He's in no position to ask for more than that with two kids ready for college. Bernstein was basically doing a solo show with Boers. The old man was just there to nod his head. But you had to pay the old man 500k. Why the SCORE didn't figure out they could save so much money by letting Bernstein go solo is beyond me.

This Goff with Bernstein thing is a failure.

If you got two glasses of wine in Bernstein, he would agree with everything I said. Christ, he would agree with it if he were sober, but only say it out loud after two glasses.

So, you're just going to give Bernsie an extra $50k with no discussion, congrats, but you don't think he's in any position to ask for more money?

I am on board. I've always liked Bernstein solo. He would fill in for Dan Patrick sometimes solo and it was a good listen.

while we are at it, let's save the Score even more money.

Bernsie solo in the afternoon.

Boot meatpants. Parkins solo in the midday.

Boot Larry. Goff takes over his show in the evenings.

He could. But if they told him that's the final offer, he's taking it. Like I said, two kids nearing college, ESPN 1000 doesn't like his type and no other radio station in town could offer him more. He can't do TV because he's not good looking. He could write but that's not paying any where near 450k.

It's just simple logic.

Listening off and on today, I can't understand the basis for the thought. I honestly prefer Limbaugh to Bernstein.

Switching to ESPN didn't help either.

8 years ago I liked him solo. I’m not sure I would anymore. He just seems so miserable. I listed to music.

Bernstein for 5 hours a day every every weekday for every week of the year is going to be rough, especially as he gets older. If you want him solo to suck up two hours or so sandwiched between the midday show and a proper afternoon show, great. But you can't give him the keys to a full-on afternoon show and not expect him to go even harder in the paint for Team SJW.

Simple question. Do you think Bernstein solo would do less ratings then "B&G"? No way. It would be the same at least and most likely go up because more racist people would listen. Just talking business. Goff hurts the racist demographic. Racist people buy beer and bed sheets too.

I've got two kids nearing college...probably going to take free money. And nobody likes my type.

Without a change in approach from Bernstein, no it wouldn't stop the ratings nosedive. They have both had an equal part in murdering the afternoon listener base, like that Ellery Queen where the cartoonists all shot the body of their boss. Bernstein left to his own devices at this stage in his life wouldn't make that better.

You could either put him in a three-hour solo show (say 9-noon) or keep him in afternoons with a new partner or rotating partners (I'd say Bernstein & Friends, but what friends?), but 25 hours each week of pure solo Senor would not work.

As much as Parkins seems to like working solo, I think he needs someone there to talk to if his whole deal is that he's a Score host who's actually a normal human being for once.

Fine. But if he refuses the kids go to community college instead of Northwestern. Bernstein wants them to be doctors or lawyers. So he would bite the bullet, swallow his pride and take the low ball offer.

It's not just the kids. I'm sure he's got a million dollar house that he's still trying to pay off. City and cook county property taxes have gone up. Plus the expense of living in the city. And his life style of good wine and good restaurants.

That's exactly it. Unless it can be quantified and monetized it now has no place on any of his shows. He's joyless, formulaic and devoid of personality, except as a tiring asshole.

Sports are fun, pointless entertainment (except baseball, that is life and death) and I love them for that. How you can take all of the joy from that’s.. I don’t know. I just don’t know.

Yeah if he's not taking a pay cut, or much of one, you've got to get more daypart hours from him. If he's willing to take a pay cut to keep doing sports radio you could give him 12-2p and shift your afternoon show 2-6/7p.

I was asking my HS son today why he isn't throwing the shot put just to scratch a competitive itch in the off season. He said that the practices were quiet and no fun. That it didn't seem like a team, just joyless.

And there was nothing I could say except that I understand.

I play rec hockey. I absolutely suck at it. I was talking to a buddy on the team and I told him I’m not sure I’m going to play next year. Too many assholes out there who aren’t having fun. It’s supposed to be fun. I’ll feel different in 3 months and decide to sign up again but damn. Have fun, bust chops, tease... don’t be an asshole. It’s not that hard.

Of all the people who have done sports radio in the city, Bernstein is the most equipped and skilled to do it solo. From what I've heard, he's better this way.

If he wants to have a conversation with somebody, the dumb ass producers could jump in.

It's the right move. Business wise and content wise. But if they have to give him a partner, Goff is the worst for Bernstein. And Bernstein knows it. Can't say it because he knows he'll be called a racist. But I'm sure he says it to his wife.

IMO, the best pairing with Bernstein is someone who he respects that can bust his balls. Even if you don't like them individually, Rozner or Rosenbloom with him make him a more affable character. That is, except when Rozner starts using his meatball voice every 5 minutes.

Quite frankly, I'm shocked that Bernstein didn't fight for a solo show after Boers left. For the extra money. Mitch would have given it to him had he been forceful.

Mitch is more afraid of Bernstein than Goff. Mitch is a meatball that knows Bernstein thinks he's a meatball.

Agreed. Bernstein needs a partner that will rein him in and call his bullshit. This is why I always wanted Rozner to replace Boers. Or you find someone out of market like Parkins to take the role. The Score shouldn't break up the midday show. As much as some of you don't care for Spiegel, he has very good chemistry with Parkins and it is easily the best show in Chicago.
