Check out the western sky tonight. Venus and Jupiter will be sitting right next to each other for the next few days. Tonight will be their closest approach, when they will appear less than 1 degree apart. Very cool stuff.
Venus is the brightest object in the sky after the moon and the sun. And Jupiter ain't no slouch either.
Should make for something neat for the kids and adults alike.

Neat!

They took on a nice odd red hue in the last half hour. Wonder if there's more of those wildfires or something causing that. I'll look into it

Aw bummer dude. We lucked out here. Clear skies. They're very low to the horizon now.

I had noticed their closeness over the past few nights. It was kind of interesting....to me. I pointed it out to my oldest child while sitting in front of the fire pit two days ago. He barely lifted his head to look

Tonight's Lunar Eclipse (coincident with a Super Moon) is underway.
Check it out.

Had a nice time with my wife and step son watching this. I was gone all afternoon but when I got home I saw that they had pulled the nice
camera up from the basement and wanted to take photos of the eclipse. I didn't know how to use the camera, as my dad left it with us the
last time he was here to visit, claiming he only needed his phone as a camera. Got some nice shots of the moon and was fun to see how
excited the 12yr old got to see the show going on.

The solar minimum is approaching.
Our third day with. Our third day with no sun spots.
What does this mean to you?
Probably nothing really.

I hope you like gamma rays!

If you get up in the hours before dawn you might catch some meteors from the Arietid meteor shower tomorrow morning.

Strawberry moon?

Yes, though I don't like those kinds of names for simple normal events. Makes it sound like there will be a oddly colored moon or something. They just name it that because the June full moon happens near an average strawberry harvest. Boring.

Eyes to the skies, Fanatics.
The perseid meteor showers is beginning and is ex0ected to peak on Friday the 12, just before Lakemoorfest. We usually have some meteors that night if skies are clear but this year the peak is expected to be somewhat more dramatic than usual. Good chance to learn them kids something about space! Get out and check it out...
The meteors will radiate from a spot just east of North and cover a good section of sky.
The best time to observe is in the hours before dawn. So 3am Saturday morning is probably cl9se to the peak.
These showers are the remains of comet swift-Tuttle. You're seeing the death 9f Tiny particles of comet that travelled billions of miles to vaporize in out upper atmosphere. Neat!

Eyes up, guardians.
Tonight we will see the peak of the Lyrid meteor shower. If you got nice dark clear skies you can see 20 meteors per hour. If you live in Schaumburg probably fewer.
So look toward the constillation Lyra and enjoy. The later in the evening you can observe the more you're likely to see.

Crescent super moon tomorrow night.
Check it out in the West just after sundown assuming it's not a rainout.
Frank will probably say it's a rainout.
Jerry will probably still sell concessions for as long as possible.

Look toward the sunset tonight and you should get a glimpse of both Venus and Mercury, a rare sight indeed.
By the 18th a crescent moon should be joining them.
Enjoy, laddies.

Check out the southeast a few hours after sunset and get a not so rare opportunity to see Seacrest being a douchebag.
