so it doesn't get lost in the clutter here, maybe start a poll?

No way dude. I get too much flak for starting threads these days and the message gets lost.

Raising the age to legally purchase guns likely could have prevented this school shooting. Definitely could have reduced the severity.

Great question.

We need to raise the age you can join the armed forces then.

Let's ask a basic question and see if we can boil this down. Let's cut out government. Nothing but a bunch of grandstanding bureaucrats, amirite?

What can gun manufacturers do to stem or eliminate school shootings?

It's 2018. School shootings are no longer disturbing. We've had it explained that it is the cost of doing business. Make sure your son knows how to duck and dodge bullets.

I'm OK with 21 being the age. The argument that they can go to war but not buy a gun or a beer is weak to me.

Yes it would have prevented or delayed this one by a couple years. It wouldn't have stopped vatech or Columbine or several others (which one was the one where his mommy gave him guns?)

I would support raising the age to 21. I think the NRA is way against that however. They've got an interesting reason why mind you but an odd scenario to be sure.

You often believe, especially with social issues, that government should work to regulate people’s choices. Fair?

A 21 year old makes better decisions than a 19 year old, on average. Maybe the kid gets his shit together with a GED. Maybe he grows to realize high school trauma isn't all that bad in the scheme of things.

These chances are worth taking.

Because none of the shootings are a result of a malfunction of the hardware. What are you getting at? You have an idea how the manufacturers can prevent shootings?

none of your post is correct.

You can't control schools like airliners. Already hardening schools is being described as turning them into prisons.

You could get rid of all guns and that would do it

But that will set off a civil war when the government goes door to door confiscating guns

He believes in Santa (borderline, pretty sure this was the last Christmas...he was asking a lot of questions). I think if someone told him that a kid busted into a school and shot a bunch of people he would be asking me about it.

The hardest part to me is discussing/explaining things without trying to influence him. My parents didnt do a great job with that and they colored a lot of my political leanings until I got older. I'd like to start him on a clean slate and let things come naturally.

He's gonna either say by not making guns at all or by equipping them with some James Bond fingerprint scanner bullshit that he saw in a movie.

Ok yes she is. Let me revise by saying that if you're giving guns to dippy teenagers you should be held accountable for their actions.

I think they should tend to avoid restricting personal choice without a valid and far more important benefit to society as a whole from it.
