The worst thing about that film is they pose it as some mystery as to why that bridge collapsed.

They know exactly why the bridge collapsed, instead of cables for the suspension, they used eye-bars to hold up the roadway. The cables you see on other suspension bridges have redundancy in them as they are really made up of hundred of thousands of individual smaller cables which are intertwined. You may see some smaller cables break, but there are hundreds or thousands of others ones which are still there holding up the load. When a pin connecting the eye-bars on the Silver Bridge broke due to fatigue, there was no redundancy to carry the load of the bridge deck so of course it collapsed. There is a reason suspension bridges aren't made like that.
