What objective evidence has lead to drinky and Goff's belief that they are anything but the very average man? You would think those two were frustrated intellectuals trying to explain esoteric theories to the masses.

Why do you feel the need to repeatedly knock their intelligence? They're talking about sports and occasionally making basic political statements. It doesn't take a degree from a big name school to be able to do that. In fact the best I've heard do it was a high school dropout IIRC.

I think you've got it backwards. They're knocking your (the listener's) intelligence.

As a so called regular guy you should know more than anyone that's how MANY regular people talk. You've acknowledged as much while not defending a president who questions the intelligence of anyone who disagrees with him.

I am an exceptional guy, Mr. McClane.

I don't know how you could miss Goff's arrogance. I listened for a few minutes here and there and it was pretty much always evident. Back in his fill in days he was completely different and way more likeable.

I told you guys this (not breaking news, it was obvious) years ago. Bernstein radio is 90% "oh my god, other people are so stupid". First it was callers, then emailers, then people on twitter and the text line. I mean how often did Goff bring up the racist texts on the text line? I think by now we all know anonymous comments bring out the worst in everyone. That's not interesting radio. And Im not even a big "stick to sports" guy, so I can imagine how much worse it is for the hardcore sports fan that tunes in specifically for the news of the day and hears about how the 815 is super racist. The people who like that kind of radio think they are smarter than the masses too (for the most part)

It's a dumb strategy for a job that depends on pleasing the masses.

Oh, and by the way, if you want to talk politics on the radio that exists. Go get a job on WLS or NPR or something.

I disagree entirely, which answers your original question. I don't care if my sports talk host has any education. It does offend me when that person tells me that their presence has now created a smarter fandom.

Why can't Goff or Drinky be arrogant? Most of us are in some way. I started listening to sports radio in like 2002 or 2003 because I caught North's show one day and LOVED it. He was probably more arrogant than any guy I've heard on sports radio and he was very successful.

We're all more easily accessible than ever before. Those threatening or racist calls and texts may noy bother you because you aren't personally affected by them. Goff and Drinky tried to emulate Bernstein's style because he was successful but neither could ever come close to being that type of an asshole.

In the old days, if a guy was acting like a wise ass, you just popped him in the mouth, and he got in line.

These guys just took a while to get popped in the mouth, but everybody knew it was coming.

Fuck you, Drinky. At times this week I was hoping that Mac would bring you back in the fold, but now I'm over that.

I don't mind some arrogance. They specifically question the intelligence of their audience and more specifically the audience before they arrived. They open the door to a discussion about relative intelligence.

I get the anger but they were both responsible for their own fates at the station. I really liked Goff and drinky 10 or so years ago but they haven't changed for the better. I think they'd be celebrating a bit that Bernstein got knocked down a peg. If anybody should have followed a style, rather than doing their own, drinky would have really benefited from adopting Terry/Mac's style. I don't know why he didn't, it was obvious he was close and remains close to Terry.

So you're bothered by a sports radio guy who isn't as educated as you telling you that his sports opinions will make fans smarter. Why is confidence bad when these guys don't have a degree or have one from a good college?

I mean they can be whatever they want, but if you're job is to get ratings, it's a bad idea to insult people, imo.

I have no issue with Goff being bothered by the texts. I dont even begrudge him bringing them up but again, not exactly a ratings bonanza with that stuff.

Also, to be arrogant and get away with it, you have to be really good and never getting pinned down on a bad thought. Bernstein is good at that. Most people are not.

I don't think North ever questioned the listeners' intelligence. It would be difficult for him to do that.

Nobody wanted to hear his political thoughts either and he isn't on the air.

They were not Mike North enough to appeal to his fan base and didn't have the college resume for MANY to accept them not being a complete meatball or whatever Mac is.

He did question the Bernstein type of listener. He's not on the air because $800k wasn't enough. He's a hustler who misplayed his hand and may have forgotten what made him who he was.

Mac did what North should have done:

You never take a loss without avenging it. Any great boxer has avenged any losses, or at least tried to.

Exactly . It was the listeners fault they weren’t popular or great . I have to give you credit here, this is Jay Cutler thread level trolling you’re doing. Nicely done.

A professional broadcaster who is very good at driving interesting conversation.

Goff could have been great. Using the Bernstein method doomed him.

Drinky was never going to be great at radio, imo.

Nope. He was out because Bernstein engineered his departure behind the scenes.

drinky isn't too bright but apparently he's hung like a horse. We're not all blessed in the same ways.

Jason certainly isn't dumb. He just let bernstein's influence rub off on him. When he produced B&b and he would chime in you could almost hear him rolling his eyes or shaking his head at dan. That's when everyone loved him.

Mike North is considered one of the biggest doofuses in Chicago and got canned from the Score. That’s not a great example of someone who wasn’t criticized for what they said.

Anyone is allowed to be arrogant or any other trait they want to be. But don’t whine when you lose your job that is to entertain people.

North wasn't retained because he didn't want to lose a 1/3 of his salary and because Bernstein had convinced the powers that be that his brand of radio was the way to go. North is on sports radio Mt Rushmore.

Matt talks some palace intrigue here. So you don't have to:

- the station didn't try to bring him back, but if they did, it would have taken a large six-figure salary for him to go back there!
- in listing DeCastro's stops before Entercom Chicago, he cites "The Game, the failed internet station that North started"
- Jimmy didn't like the way the station sounded, knows Mac would be fun without social issues, reading between the lines, Jimmy hated Bernstein and Goff
- Jimmy says Mac is good for the hallways, Matt says he wasn't good for the hallways and lots of co-workers resented Mac, but not Drinky himself
- Lots of guys, like he was, have been there long enough to deserve full-time shows (faulty logic alert whoop whoop whoop) so Mac better not blow this
- They love Connor McDoink and the probably-rigged Score Search
- Matt is concerned that Dan will mail it in. He's the most talented host Matt has ever heard, who can walk in with no show prep and do a great show, but on days when there isn't a lot going on, Dan's lack of show prep puts a great strain on the producers.
- Feels bad for Spiegs and Jason, Jason in particular getting a raw deal
- Other guy: Jimmy doesn't mess around
- Matt was told that DeCastro wanted to make more changes than he made, that he wanted to move one of Mully or Hanley and move Bernstein into mornings but was persuaded not to.
- Other guy: there's too much recycling, the same guys always get fired and re-hired and deserving producers get stuck as producers
- Matt gave up on waiting for a full-time spot that he earned after 16 years, as Mannelly, Jason in middays, Jason in afternoons, and Parkins all passed him. He was tired of producing but didn't like updates.
- Jason will land on his feet and do very well.

In a small sample size, that is what we thought with Jason. But....interrupting people while talking, dominating the conversation(especially during transition), and taking 2min to ask a simple question has nothing to do with Dan.
