Forget your stance on guns for a second..just think of the logistical shit show of suddenly declaring "x" amount of citizens criminals. They can't even get their budget together. Good luck with handling those cases.

Yeah I'd be down for future sales.

This was an attempt to see if they could do it.
So when we hear "no one is coming for your guns...." we can say "ain't for lack of trying".

Imagine that... an ex post facto law passes the house. It may very well pass the Senate. It requires turning in guns.

If Illinois got away with this, I imagine it's just the beginning.

I wager the excuse to be given shortly is "no one wants to grab your guns ogie... just those under 21".
My view is that if they find a way to make that stick then they'd have precident to expand upon that.
How does that pass the house? It's clearly unconstitutional.

Sorry the one I'm referring to passed the house not the one rauner vetoed yesterday...

House Bill 1465, as amended by Representative Michelle Mussman (D-56), previously passed the House by a vote of 64-51.  It would deny law-abiding young adults under the age of 21 their Second Amendment rights by prohibiting them from possessing or purchasing commonly-owned semi-automatic firearms, standard capacity magazines that hold more than 10 rounds of ammunition, and .50 BMG caliber rifles.  The bill would require adults under the age of 21 to dispose of such firearms within 90 days and to dispose of standard capacity magazines over ten rounds in capacity immediately.  In addition, language in the bill would prohibit out-of-state visitors from being present in Illinois for longer than 24 hours with such firearms or standard capacity magazines.

Thank you.

Im going to take issue with the "not paying attention" label though since it's not even the biggest gun bill he vetoed this week and googling showed no results.

That's a dumb bill.

I doubt there would have been any seizure of weapons..at the very worst, under 21 owners could have transferred ownership to a FOID carrying relative over 21. The only cases of this being enforced would be an accompanying crime/incident...traffic stop and they find it in the back seat or something.

Would you bet your future on that? They could hit you with a felony which could pretty much end your ability to work in most jobs.

Our government is made up of some real fucked up control freaks who take joy in ruining lives over small amounts of a plant.

I was going to say similar. Historically on this and other subjects my experience is "I am liberal, I am correct, you cave in and I win". That is compromise to the left.

Edit: Almost forgot it is all better if they throw in "common sense...".

If you're 18 and own one of those do you risk a weapons felony hoping it's not discovered?
How about the poor bastard driving thru Illinois who isnt aware that something that's legal at 8am Thursday is a felony at 9am friday?

It's complicated, my rep David Welter, a republican, posted on his FB page some reasonable concessions in regards to these bills. He was for regulating new sales, but not current owners(citing the problems of criminalizing existing people)..he took shit from the retards on both the far left and the far right. The middle seems to be shrinking.

Never had a prayer of passing so I wouldn't get worked up. I wouldn't surprise me if the Dems in Illinois wrote the bill knowing full well it wouldn't pass. Remember, in an election year, it's not about actually getting a bill to pass, it's about riding the coattails of legislation(and the news it carries), no matter how shitty or poorly thought out it is.

Right again.

Reasonable people like Darkside are pushed out by extremists like pittmike.

It was a bad bill. Zero compromise. Never had a chance passing the governor or even enough republicans to overthrow his veto. Remember you had the Chicago cop killed and then Florida, of course they have to "make a name" with this bill with election season coming up.

Can you tell me more about this? Which political group? Who was the money funneled to? Are there some 15 year old kids now walking around with some extra popcorn money?

Of course there are. Didn't you see the kinds in their new Cameros? The school that came up with it did it solely because George Soros came to them with a big check. Nothing to do with watching their classmates get smoked.

I'm noting a lack of Cameros on that page.

Just to clarify, Women's march youth empower is not the same group who did the pussyhat trump march.

I wasnt sure about that, but seems to be different organizations.

But if we say anyone who walks out fully supports that group, then I think you have to say anyone who marched in Charlottesville completely supports the KKK and the alt right.

I dont think that's fair to either group, personally.

Amen. The country has an inability to be pragmatic, and instead is dogmatic. How do we achieve better outcomes for education? How do we reduce gun violence? How do we balance budgets and make entitlements and pensions sustainable? And so on.
