My friend was working the other day and found hundreds of medical files in a dumpster. There's no medical business where he works. So he called the police to document this.

Apparently the landlord of the place ended up with all these records from somewhere else and decided the best way to dispose of them was to bring him straight to a dumpster. Apparently the landlord is also quite pissed that the police were called.

I told him he should have reported it to State authorities in addition to the police.

So here's your CFMB ethics question for the day - what do you have kept quiet, called the police, or escalated it further?

Your friend did the right thing. The landlord should have known better. I'm kind of in the medical business so I may have contacted the health care provider as well.
