Implied that DeCastro's public explanation for the change was not the one he was given in private but didn't elaborate.

Jason trying to force DeCastro to say "stick to sports" so he can....what? ESPN isn't hiring him. Podcast, maybe? Sue Entercom?

I like Jason and always have but my opinion of him has plummeted this last week. Not that my opinion on him means anything to anyone, of course, but it's just been such an abysmal series of responses from him that I don't know how a reasonable person wouldn't easily see that all he's doing is burying himself by trying to get over the way he's been attempting to do so. Just really, really stupidly played so far.

Completely agree. I have always been a fan of Goff. But he could not have handled this situation any worse.

I hate meatpants, but as JORR noted, you gotta give him credit for the way he has handled the same deal.

Most people would now have less confidence in the influence of Woke Twitter on local sports radio, but Jason seems to have more confidence in them than ever. He's playing to them.

I agree, Don and RFDC, but are either of you surprised? He has handled criticism like a child for at least the past few years.

Not surprised at how Goff has handled it.

I am surprised that meatpants did not go down the same path.

Goff and decastro both handled it badly.

Not saying that Goff isn't responsible for his dismissal but how do you expect him to react? He has a young child that may have medical issues and once this contract runs out (in 18 months or less) it is unlikely that he will ever be able to make this type of money in radio ever again. What other experience does he have? How differently would some of you all react? I've seen folks react far worse in the past couple of days because Rick disagreed with them.

Spiegel was screwed IMO but he just signed a new deal that is probably good for 3 years. That gives him a little bit of security. That likely changes the way he would react.

I guess not surprised, because on some level I was refusing to spend time thinking it through to a rational assessment, which leaves me with 'disappointed' as the only available choice as I'm not ready to hand-wave him away dismissively nor have I any interest in making excuses for his attitude that wouldn't seem to have an endpoint anytime soon.

Nas, he can react more professionally, period. I don't see a need to discuss that further beyond that sentence. And you're right, he probably won't make the same bread as he was at The Score - but he can chalk part of that up as a reaction by future potential employers to his bitch attitude this past week.

This is why I keep on saying that Goff made no attempt to have any mentors in his industry. His voices, if any, are all yes men.

A real mentor, as in a man of color with 15+ and preferably 25+ years in some sort of Chicago media, would have beat Goff senseless by now to get him to STFU.

Bernstein had made it clear, on-air, that he does not consider himself a mentor to anybody in the industry.

I feel bad for his fiance and kid but Goff didn't seem to listen to the audience. Many people complained about the trend of the show and the ratings did show that 1000 was either ahead or significantly reduced the ratings gap. Telling listeners not to listen if they don't like it was not a good decision. It is obvious his quality of work had decreased since leaving Spiegel; I applaud his level of self-confidence to accept the role with Dan but it wasn't a good pairing. If he cares that much about continuing a radio career, keep quiet like Matt has and employers will be more likely to hire him. He has a means of income for the next 12-18 months that allows him to explore other opportunities in and out of the radio industry. Matt realizes that with child support and possibly still being financially responsible for one or both of his divorces, he needs to play the good soldier until a better opportunity comes around. Danny B got another opportunity because this is the first time he has been demoted and as far as we know, never been a shit-stirring with management.

If I were Goff, I would seriously consider going outside the radio business like Drinky did. Goff appears to have a great personality and good social skills with plenty of contacts to be very successful.

I would expect, given his boasting about still collecting checks and being an Entercom employee still, to not get on Twitter and call bullshit on his boss's roundabout explanation for his dismissal from the afternoon show.

He didn't change his approach when people criticized his new show. He didn't change it when the ratings went into free-fall. And now he is challenging the guy who decides if he can continue to get paychecks. I get that he has a kid at home and is staring into the abyss, but exactly when will he start acting like it, and when will MANY finally expect him to?

I’ve been fired more times than Goff and never said BOO about it. Go home. Cry. Wake up in the morning and start looking for a new job. Burning bridges and making excuses is career suicide.

He should reflect on why this happened and start looking for new work.

Jason didn't go full scorched earth, but he definitely could have handled it more professionally.

Handling it with more class, which only amounts to shutting up on social media, would have scored him a lot more points, imho.

Jason is responding like MANY of the old B&B fans on the Twitter who fancy themselves as more evolved. They are feeding into this. Hopefully Jason gets out of the Twitter echo chamber.

Maybe come here and listen to the clips in the Glory Days thread.

The pallor that Dan has taken on from never exposing himself to the sun is only nominally a color.
