My guess is nobody is really going to ask many questions because the tech world is so invested in this technology not being a fairy tayle.

These test cars have driven millions of miles and this is the 1st fatality (a person jaywalking BTW).

We have data at this point to empirically prove that driverless cars are safer. You can choose to be a Luddite if you would like, but these cars are the future.

Traffic flow and travel times will both increase when we get more of these on the road as they handle merging far better than human drivers (which is one of the biggest contributors to traffic buildups on expressways)

I guess America is upset as he'll lose his one possibility for income should he return.

People are defending the murderous robot by saying she was jaywalking. If these robots cant tolerate that kind of criminality without slaughtering humans its time to rethink whether we even want this in the first place.

I'm sure no humans who were jaywalking in the last 24 hours were hit and killed by cars with drivers.

You make it sound like the robot woke up and said to itself, "I'm going to kill some one today."

Stop it.

Should the cops give someone a ticket for jaywalking? No. Should a robot car kill someone for jaywalking? Yes! That's how markets work.

This should not have been allowed on public roads so blithely. The promise of "self driving cars by 2020" was wildly unrealistic and tech companies leverage it against governments saying that they cant achieve it (even though they know its impossible to do so quickly) without putting the public at risk. Now a woman has been killed for jaywalking. Ogie is OK with that, apparently, but the vast majority of people aren't. This was entirely preventable.

and no jaywalkers have been killed by cars with a driver at the wheel? Not even in the last 24 hours?

You're embarrassing yourself, but that's par for the course for you.

Millions of miles driven by automated cars have provided us with quite a lot of data to show that driverless cars are immensely safer.

It will be interesting to see the footage of it. These car are equipped with a rediclous amount of surveylance.

Did the car have an operator? Was it reasonable for them to have applied the brakes? Did the car at least scam a customer out of 5 dollars when leaving the scene. These are the impoetnat questions.

It did have an operator, but was in autonomous mode.

Exactly.

This car had a driver too but it was in autonomous mode.

They aren't ready yet but they will be soon.

Hey America, if you are so concerned with this pedestrian how do you view the Parkland shooting?

She was a bicyclist from articles I've read. If a bicyclist pulls out in front of you, I don't really see how this gets avoided with a human or computer in control.

driving every day along side the human populous makes me feel like this isn't really all that bad. 16 pedestrians are killed a day by human drivers in the US. roads full of robot drivers just have to only kill 15 a day and its already better.

These cars are babysat to an extreme degree to prevent exactly this from happening. If you had a self driving car that was as puritanical about speed limits and inane traffic code you'd seize the controls yourself after getting fed up with its bullshit.

I like how you wont even refer to the victim as a person. "Jaywalker"--like its some sort of slur.

There about infinity times more human drivers than robot drivers on the roads today.

well it appears she was a jaybiker...

Seriously though, speeds limits would probably be increased and overall traffic flow at merges and intersections would be improved if we had more driverless cars.
