Spiegs has said it several times. Bugs the Christ out of me. Not even in the book. (To be fair, I don't think "play catch" is either.) However, that book has the best two opening paragraphs I have ever read in any book:
My father said he saw him years later playing in a tenth-rate commercial league in a textile town in Carolina, wearing shoes and an assumed name.
