SAD a pro-life Democrat is said to have something wrong with him.

That's sad. If a woman that's 3 months pregnant was attacked by Rae Carruth or anyone else and lost her baby everyone would consider it murder. A woman going to get her 9th abortion is considered courageous. MANY look at abortion like it's no big deal now and that's really unfortunate.

This is some "people on twitter are saying" level stuff.

I'm just happy we were finally able to elect a few Irish female judges. Finally some progress.

I worked a precinct yesterday in an "emerging" neighborhood. Facial hair is as cliché as the barbed wire tattoo from a decade ago. So individualistic. Just ask the 200 other people of your demographic who walked in earlier looking exactly the same.

The great Anne Burke agrees.

My polling place was pretty bare. There was one bored looking cop sitting outside. I voted Ives, but it wasn't enough.

If a Rauner/Pritzker matchup doesn't encourage you to move out of this state, nothing will.

Still can't believe JB carried the Black vote after he basically insulted the entire race. Gotta love Illinois!

Yes it sucks, and I voted for Rauner. The Dems will obviously win as this year is looking like a landslide. I could have lived with Kennedy or Biss. But this state has survived many jailed governors, so I guess we will survive this.

I thought about that this morning. Normally racial slip-ups result in a political death sentence. He is more slippery than we thought.

His campaign was so shitty too, outside of a ton of $$ he had for ads.

I'm JB, I hate Donald Trump! So that means I should be governer

The attack on Kennedy was sad, who gives a fuck if he approved high salaries for the football/basketball coach. Obviously, U of I keeps fucking it up, but if the programs go to bowl games/tournies.they bring back that investment TEN FOLD! You think Alabama regrets giving Saban all that $$$$?

No, pragmatic. And in the era of the Heritage Foundation, Federalist society and Trump's banana republican party, people realize the need for pragmatism. And quite frankly, what he said really only got cried about a select group that's been around forever and fairly impotent.

And there are enough people in the community who actually know & personally like the guy.

If the argument falls to pointing at Alabama for (good)public financial investment/policy then your emperor has no clothes. And his advisers are blithering idiots.

Alas...(Chris)Kennedy was kind of a "limp dick" as a politician anyways. Nice guy, but not much else.

And the rest of Alabama is an old, worn out cow, thankful that Mississippi exists to keep them out of 50th in education, quality of life, business opportunity, etc..

Agreed. I'm really curious to see where Biss ends up though. He ran a startlingly effective campaign imo.

Ives would have won easily(IMO) if she laid off the bible banging social issues which have no upside in this state anyways.

I agree with this. She should have stuck to attacking Rauner and focused on the people leaving the state, and she could have won.

That's alright. Pritzker will put the final nail in Illinois' coffin.

Well I hope RR is right about him being pragmatic. And I am also comforted if he is in fact well liked by folks that know him. We need a dose of pragmatism. The long term financial problems will only be solved if the Dems all get on board. I don't know how you fix the pension with the way the IL Supreme Court has ruled. Without a fix, that albatross will eventually sink the state.

Rauner just wanted to fight on every financial issue without ever offering a real plan. Sure Madigan is a bigger problem, but Rauner's tactics were never going to fix anything. JB may be big enough to get some folks on board.

A taxpayer can dream, right?

More of a nightmare with JB...he wants a progressive income tax structure. Thankfully it's currently illegal under the Illinois constitution, so changing to that would be as difficult as changing the pension clause.

I think everyone is coming to the realization that the Constitution needs to be changed. There is a mechanism to change as was done in 1970. The state is on its fourth constitution. And I think a good compromise would be to loosen the pension guarantee built into the current constitution and add a progressive tax. The broad way in which the current pension guarantee has been interpreted where you can't change even future benefits is just not sustainable. Like Jaw, I wouldn't like a progressive tax, but our society obviously views that as a fair way to tax income. You could probably get term limits put in too.

Let's be honest here, does the vote for governor really matter when Michael Madigan is truly your state's governor? Heck for all the crap Rauner takes, he really has no power, nor did any governor before him have any power. Madigan truly runs the state and that isn't changing. The sad thing is, he'll be dropping dead right when the fiscal time bomb blows up, so he won't have to see it or catch grief for it.

True. But a guy like Pritzker can enact Madigan's vision much quicker. Rauner tried to play tough guy and stall. It can work but only for so long.

Isn't enacting Madigan's vision for the last 30+ years the reason that Illinois is in this mess?
