He did/was accused of nothing by anyone, but the lead news bimbo read the story and at the very end noted that the deceased had gotten out of jail a month ago.

The revised story in some reports is that the police were responding to calls, just like they responded to calls in Cleveland where a kid in a park with a toy gun was shot w/in seconds, or in the Wal-Mart where a guy innocently shopping was killed because of call about a guy with a gun in some aisle.
