I think so?? I remember Rachel is pissed when they move and she comments on her old apartment being purple.

Ah. My bad. Late season Friends got really bad, so I don't remember the lines from those seasons as well as seasons 1-4.

Jennifer Aniston's nipples were the highlight(s) of Friends.

Friends sucked after the first few seasons but didn't Friends use the easy excuse of NYC rent control to get away with it?

she had a good interaction with kimmel last night

Quote:
“I’m shocked because you were a very liberal, socially liberal person in general,” Kimmel told Barr during her late-night sitdown.

“I’m still the same — you all moved. You all went so f---ing far out you lost everybody,” Barr exclaimed.

Roseanne was great.

Her interview with Kimmel was also great.

I hate celebrities' opinions on all things political. Unless I agree with them!

Roseanne took place in Sycamore, the "shithole" that I went to high school in. The local newspaper was shown in their kitchen all of the time.

Wasn't show supposed to be about life in your or Peoria Matt's neck of the woods?

I think they were supposed to be emblematic of the lower working class in middle America.

As to their specific location, I didn't know it was Sycamore, as referenced above. I just remember them referencing Lanford as being close to Elgin. Whenever they went to the "city", it was Elgin.

I think Lanford was out in the Sycamore area. I think it was some combination of Rockford and the areas surrounding. I know in one episode Dan mentions going to Dekalb.

I think there was a concert in Rockford that Darlene wanted to go to in one episode...

Wikipedia claims they originally had the Connors living in Fulton County (which I never remembered being mentioned) then being later moved to the Aurora-Elgin area

I remember watching it with my parents every week, back when you actually had to plan your evening around any shows you liked watching, or try to set a grainy VHS tape that had been recorded over 100 times.

The way we watch "tv" now and cell phones are the two biggest "back in my day" conversations I have with my kids.

Yeah, TV was much more social back then. People watched show finales and things at the exact same time all around the country.

Did people really appreciate Roseanne when it aired or was a lot of it retroactive when they realized how divorced from reality a show like Modern Family is?

sitcoms are never grounded in economic reality. Case in point, how the fuck does Kramer afford a place in Jerry's building?

Because he falls ass-backwards into money!

Friends is a much better example.

They afforded the apartment because Monica pretended her granny was still alive & it was a rent control apartment.

The dialogue is laying the exposition on thick, and some of these jokes are painfully on the nose, but it's nice to see everyone back together.
