I think there are two big issues here:

1) Teenagers think they know everything. This is not new and will never be new.

2) There's always an enthusiasm among slightly older people to proclaim the next generation to be the best, the smartest, the most liberal, and the one that will Save Us All because of some guilt in having been derelict in liberal salvation themselves. Millennials heard all the same shit about themselves and how they were the greatest people who ever lived, until it turned out we weren't, and now these kids are. And it's usually just because, I dunno, they post on Twitter or something, because journalists live on Twitter and can't conceive of a world beyond it. And they'll disappoint their elders down the road like everyone has because no generational cohort can live up to the expectations of people deferring their own shortcomings onto others.
