Good show.

For you old-timers, did Hawkeye just walk around drinking vodka all the time?

He did not drink vodka.

It was homemade gin.

Love The Swamp "tennis matches" with fly swatters and inflated surgical gloves.

My dad loved this show. Saw every episode at least twice in my yoot.

It's just one big orgy!

Hawkeye has to have several STD's.

Except the fat Asian one.

She wanted Hawkeye but he wasn't having any of it.

So sad.

Are they still making new episodes or is it just re-runs?

And why have I never seen this Alan Alda guy in anything else?

I never understood why they dropped Spearchucker. (I mean, I heard that they wanted to be realistic, but he could have been an interesting character.)

It's amazing how un-pc--especially considering matters of gender--this show was in the early seasons.

My 7th-grade music teacher made our class sing the words to the M*A*S*H theme - "Suicide is Painless".

Many times.

Between that and the BigMac song, the childhood of Dr Ken was filled with odd music themes.

The show was fantastic in the first three seasons, until the actors' egos got in the way, and then Alda got increasing creative control, which slowly morphed the show from a silly comedy with some seriousness sprinkled in, to a drama with some occasional light-hearted and flat humor.

Say what you will about the disparity of the Frank Burns character between the film and the series, but when Larry Linville left, the show had pretty much jumped the shark, and by the last couple of seasons, it appeared that most of the actors were pretty much mailing it in.

We sang it so much that when I watch the show and hear the theme, I sing the song in my head.

Maybe I'll break it out at the next CFMB Karaoke.

When was the Capt Tuttle episode, that was to me the best overall episode they ever did.Close second was Adam's Ribs.

My favorite was the one where Hawkeye and BJ shone a light on how stupid the Army brass was.

Didn't know the name of the song until the late 80s when a girlfriend told me. That was the first thing that suggested to me that Dallas was a weird place

She doesn't always appear so on Welcome Back Kotter, but that woman was a dish.

MASH: Alda took over, which wasn't good. Frank added nothing to the show after the first few seasons--no growth, no humanity, just a cartoon. Col. Potter was ok, though, and so was Winchester.

Wasn't very subversive in the later years unless Sidney was on.

Speak for yourself. Summer of '95 (or '94?), Nick at Nite had Kotter marathons on Friday nights and a pre-pubescent Curious Hair laid eyes on Marcia Strassman in those dumpy clothes and gigantic eyeglasses and thought "one day I think I want one like that." More than anything, I think what really did it for me was her nearly monastic patience for terrible meandering jokes, and indeed any girl who has put up with me for any period of time has had that quality. My parents probably thought it was odd that I was watching reruns of Welcome Back Kotter but may have been relieved to know at least such thoughts weren't being stirred up by John Travolta.

She weighed about 93 pounds, though. Too skinny. I'm sure I would have hit on her, though.
